Onkyo in a paragraph or less?

In the 1970's, Onkyo was the house stereo brand for Myre, the dominant department store chain in Victoria, Australia. Because of that, I dismissed it as being not good quality (reasoning if it was good quality it would be carried by the hifi stores). In retrospect, the brand was probably as good as the other Japanese solid state gear being sold.
