Opinions using a MC 2105 with...

you can use any pre amp with any amplifier. all that matters isif you like why they sound together.

You cannot use any pre-amp with any amp. Especially an old tube type that requires a load no lower than 150 K ohms with a modern SS amp with a 20 Kohm input impedance. I used 2105's with Cornwalls all the time. In fact a former room mate of mine drove his Cornwalls with a 2105. But he was using a C-28 and the sound was great, not accurate, but very listenable.

The input impedance of the MC2105 is on the high side ~ 200k ohm which means it should be compatible with the vast majority of preamplifiers ever made, even very old tube units.

So long as the output impedance of the preamplifier is less than 200k, there should not be a problem.

The only matching problem I have seen is matching DC coupled amplifiers with tube pre-amps, tube pre-amps have the tendency to put out DC voltage at turn on, sometimes over 100V, to a DC coupled amplifier this looks like any other signal and gets passed on to the speakers with disastrous results. The cure for this is to turn on the pre-amp first then off last.

Well I bought it. My local audio store let me take it home for a few days with a ten dollar deposit. Perfect glass and a beautiful, original cabinet. It is dead quiet. It really sounds great being fed by a tube pre. I have Cornwalls and always thought that the background hiss that other amps create was part of the deal with such sensitive speakers. I was wrong. In a better situation like this it is dead silent. I'm impressed. Story on this amp was it came from the original owner who is no longer with us. There is a C 26 in also NM condition with a beautiful cabinet still sitting in the store. There was also a tuner but that sold pretty quick, as you would expect. I finally feel like my speakers, amp and preamp are dialed into a place that is very blissful.

I am running my 2105 with a C26 through a set of cornwalls as well...very, very good sound, I am waiting on a C28 as I have heard this is a near perfect match for the 2105.
