Oppo BDP-93 as CD player

I have a BDP-93. It is a well-rounded, robust and feature laden player.
While many touted its video playback quality, the Oppo BDP-93 was also a high content audio player capable of decoding numerous audio codecs.
You can play a standard CD, audio CD, HDCD, MP3, WAV & FLAC files on CD with the unit. The network features are a bit clunky when compared to some of today's network-capable devices but it does get you there so it can be a digital system endpoint & DAC if you so choose.
There are two USB inputs, one on the fact of the unit and one at the rear, which can be used for plugging in a USB thumb drive or hard drive full of digital files. In fact, this is how I use mine in a second system. Having a monitor to access and control the playlists is a must however.
I would buy another one if I needed a new player.

Thanks for the response. I'm looking for a CD player that would compliment my system as a second source. Also I have heard great comments on Oppo that is why I like to give it a try. I would be trying both rca analog out as well as the digital out, not simultaneously., since I have a DAC.
I would like to revisit this thread to ask if the Oppo BDP-93 can be used as a CD transport to connect to an external DAC using the toslink or digital coax outputs. I imagine it can and the Oppo players have a great reputation for being very good players with robust components that make them ideal transports.
I know the Oppo BDP-95 is supposedly a higher end player in general with a better DAC, but since CD will only be an occasional playback medium and I intend to use an external DAC (Chord) then it is not critical to have the higher end player with the better built-in DAC.
Any feedback on the Oppo BDP-93 used only as a CD transport would be greatly appreciated.

That is a good question and the Manual really does not say one way or the other. I suggest you call OPPO as they will still answer questions. I have two 93s and as a CD player they did not match a Rotel 1072 or my newer 1672 but do sound decent.
The manual shows digital or optical Output but does not mention how to bypass the internal DAC. Interested to know the answer myself.

Below is the response I got from Oppo support, so it looks like I'm good to go to use the Oppo BDP-93 as a CD transport into a external DAC.

FWIW, My sun room located 24/7/365 UPS backed up powered for ~7 yrs. and operating OPPO UDP-203 connected to a small 15" HDMI monitor on top of it provides me with HQ WAV. ripped music via a 1Terabyte flash drive inserted into its front panel USB port.
I use its S/PDIF coax output to digitally connect via 20 meter HQ coax cable to my Pro-ject brand DAC located in another room (my living room`s master A/V rack).
I liked the first one that I bought so much that is installed in the A/V rack for all my HQ true 4K (4096) video needs that I bought another two months later for the sole purpose of playing just my digital music files, as described above.
Neither player has ever given me any issues or any glitches since their installation and use.
I listen to the music purposed OPPO every day, all day from wakeup to switching over to the video purposed OPPO 203 for the evening`s optical video BR/DVD selected entertainment after dinner.
I was totally unaware of OPPO period ~14 yrs. ago until my B & M A/V dealer recommended the first OPPO Universal player to me due to issues that I was experiencing with my first BR/DVD player (a Sony) that refused to play, ironically !" 2 Sony pictures brand new purchased BR movie discs.
I was so impressed with that OPPO BDP-103`s build quality and A/V performance, that when I purchased a $25,000.00 ! Sony theater grade true 4K digital projector, that I decided to purchase the OPPO UDP-203 true 4K Universal player several months later, and retire to my spare/backup A/V equipment closet the BDP-103.
Yeah, I`m an OPPO BR/DVD/Digital music Universal player fanboy.

I have both an Oppo BDP-93 and BDP-103. I've used them both as CD/SACD/DVD-A players on their own, and as transports. The BDP-93 is great as a CD-Player on its own, the DAC is pretty good- I could not discern a difference between it and my previous DAC, a Schiit Modi 3+ and as a transport, it is exemplary.
