Ordered some JBL Studio 530s thisafternoon....

My pair arrived today. I hooked them up to my Marantz 2330B (130 watts) in the bedroom setup. Wow! Really great. Meets my expectations, based on reviews I read here and elsewhere. Fun, smooth, great imaging, good dynamics, surprisingly full bass, etc etc. Lol. Gonna have to resist ordering a second pair....
 
Received mine Monday evening. So far I am still getting used to them. These are the impressions from an Audio-neophyte.

They are very different from the Elac 6.0s they are replacing. Much more on the top end and bass is tighter and a lot easier to control. Unfortunately my speaker location options are rather limited and the right speaker is fairly close to a wall. I have pulled them out more into the room and towed them in a bit and they sound pretty good so far setup like that.

For TV/Movie duty they are great. Just like many have described them. Open and lively, more so then the Elacs.

For music at present I am still working on this. The problem is not the speakers I think, as much as they seem to be exposing the limits of streaming Pandora. This is not where I mainly listed to music. I am going to try some high-res rips today to see what happens. Overall first impressions.. I like them very much and as I find how they will work best I think I will be very happy with them.

These are the first Horn speakers I have ever owned. I guess I have lived a very sheltered life when It come to audio gear.

Interesting. I have found that the more revealing the speaker, the more "grunge" you hear in the media. I hear grunge from CDs on my "Ethyl Mermans" that I hear less of on the 604s, and even less on the L300s..., but it's there. I know that sometimes this is noise from a snare drum's spring assembly, but more often perhaps these are artifacts of the digital transfer, the digital "signature" or even overloading of the original recording/mics. The source is an OPPO 95, so is of high quality.
 
Anything from the JBL Studio series that has the biradial horn and compression driver is going to be BRUTAL with lossy or poor quality recordings. They show it all and, in some cases, ruthlessly. It’s like having a car with gobs of power on tap...the performance can be breathtaking but at the some time can punish you if harnessed inappropriately and without respect for its potential energy.
 
I really would like these, but I have so many speakers. I even tried to put my JBL L19s along side my computer monitor as "computer monitor" speakers, but they are way too big. I suspect the 530s are even bigger?

Darn it!! Not only are they smaller than the L19, they are on sale (I missed that in the thread).
How crazy would it be to buy these and put them along side my new 27" iMac. Especially crazy knowing that when I turn my chair 90 degrees I will have the 590s pointed at me.

These pictures are NOT my computer, I found the pictures on the internet searching for "530", but oh baby, what an excuse to buy speakers I don't need!!! Unlike the L19, it looks like the 530 will be just fine next to my new iMac.

Wait till you try the 520C, first impressions are it is a good match to the l200t3 for music videos.
 
I found the sound! My main problem was the Roku unit I use for movies and video. I had in the past listened to Pandora and also had a flash drive with music rips. Yesterday I updated a laptop that I have not been using and connected that by usb to my Schiit Modi3 and ran the rips from there. Beautiful full bodied clear with no noise or distortion. I had not really been listening much to music on this system and now I can see why.

Even before the JBLs were added it just didn't sound that great. The 530's have forced me to change things for the better.
 
Looks like someone couldn't resist poking the dust cover. Mine had a much smaller hole in the end of the box but fortunately no damage to the speakers.
 
Yes, fortunately, they are. We pulled them out, and you're right Wayne, that airgap saved them. Once we had them out of the box and examined to our satisfaction, my wife remarked how nice looking they were.

So back in the box they went, and she will be wrapping them for under the tree. Good thing Christmas is only a couple of weeks away!

Christmas is going to be so great for you this year!!!

Mine are also my Christmas present, but I couldn't wait. If I was a kid and they were under the tree, I'd be poking a hole in the wrapping to see what the hell it was.............:)
