ortofon cartridge opinions please

I think so too!

I've been wanting to try a nude stylus on my cheap Ortofons, thanks for the great idea Quest. My only question is, from the pics it looks like the bottom of the body might come close to the record surface?
 
You know "this guy" is me right?

You can usually find the Thiel CS1.2 for less than your B&Ws DM602s. I sold mine. For the type of music you like, the Thiels are great.

onepixel, those were the thiels I heard. In fact his whole setup looked remarkably similar to the picture except for the equipment mix. Now he has only AV receiver on lower shelf of a similar rack. But those speakers! I love em! 50s R%R, Les Paul classiss,
country guitar, doo wop, western and whatever else soots me fancy. Hope some day I can find a pair.
And yes, good care of it I will take. It needs some damping fluid in the cue'er if I can figger how to put it in.

oldhifiguy(PETE) ... I AM the GUY and YOU bought MY Technics SL-1350 TT. YOU came to MY house and listened to MY Thiels.

The AV receiver is for my daughter.

I imagine the 200 NE might have a tight fit under the overhang of the OMP. A little sanding would be necessary. But the connection would work.

Carl, I never had a clue. so you're onepixel. how about that. Glad we finally connected. Your speakers really impressed me. I have some DM602 now and do like em alot. What model are your theils? I thought you said 4 something. All the new ones are way more than I want to spend, 2,3,4K at crutchfirld. But I want the ones you have if I can ever find them.

lol.. I agree. That was last year. Notice one of the racks has been compelety overgrown. Most of the gear is back in my office. My wife makes all those paper flowers. They are famous even... been on The Martha Stewart Show.

The ones you heard are the CS 1.2s. I had some 04a speakers that sounded nearly identical. I have the much bigger CS 2.2s in my office.

If I wasn't in such a rush yesterday, I would've given you a tour. I'll keep an eye out for some Thiels for you.

As i understand it they share the same cartridge body, just a different stylus. I got the OMB 5E as it the cheapest way to make a 'Quest 20' with the Digitrac stylus. A total of $56 shipped.
 
lplover, eteller: Yup, the OM(B)5E and OM(B)10 are very much the same thing - only difference is that the needle 5E is designed for a little lower compliance/higher tracking force. So if one wanted to run either of the two as is (i.e. without upgrading the needle), one should simply choose the one that fits better to the arm it shall be mounted on...

I upgraded my Super OM30 to an OM40 with a stylus change. Sounds as detailed as a number of moving coils I've heard - and no MC tipped up treble.

Thanks carl. I can go for a loooong time without getting more spkrs(have B&W DM602 and Sansui SP1700s) running on 2 separate systems with kenwood and sansui integ. amps. The 1700s are expendable, the B&Ws are keepers, unless I can replace them with 603s and even will probably keep them. But I always like to keep my options open just in case.
