Over used and incorrectly used phrases...

Not a phrase but the growing trend to add ie or y on the end of words.

foodie
selfie
fixie
ciggy
fatty
panny

It isn't cute, it's annoying.

Iconic. Every ****ing thing is iconic, "iconic actor Keanu Reeves", meanwhile most of the people saying so wouldn't know an icon from black velvet Elvis painting.

People who haven't mastered the affect-effect thing like to use impact as a verb.

A person who says "pull the trigger" for buying something is no doubt fond of pulling his pud. One pellethead here said he was "pulling the pin", blissfully unaware that's a term for retiring from the workforce.

Black velvet Elvis paintings are so iconic, they have impacted modern society in countless, jaw-dropping, stunning ways.

Critical listening,…
When you go to an acoustic chamber music concert, and have full run of the room for recording. You run three different stereo recordings from different depths, and you analyze it to the 'enth degree, to find the sweet spot in the hall. You then take what you learn, and improve on your techniques, and then sit back and listen to endless hours of new recordings of the same ensemble/same room, different techniques.
You learn to listen so well that you can actually hear the difference in turning the mics outward from each other by 5º apiece makes (or perhaps more towards straight on axis), as it encompasses the ensemble better, or adds some ambiance magic from the room, etc.
You do this for hundreds or thousands of performances, over decades, and assess each one critically. You can get a well developed critical listening skill this way.

That was EPIC......

Craigslist sellers who use 'subwoofer' when referring to the woofer in a two or three-way speaker.

Non-audio peeves: their, they're, there; your, you're.

I didn't do nothing! Okay you just said you did something.

The approaching tornado sounded like 100 freight trains. So, you've heard that?

After the tornado it looked like a "war zone" do wars happen in zones? :D

Again, not audio related, but using "begs the question" when the person really means "suggests or invites the question". ("Begs the question" refers to circular reasoning -- assuming what was to be shown.)

Actually, according to the current style manuals, both usages are now considered acceptable.
