I owned one of their preamps a while ago and got on their mailing list.

Well, I AM in New Zealand - the HOME of Perreaux!
I have a PMF2150B, a PMF3150 and an SM-3 pre-amp.
I found the SM3 on a hard rubbish collection - can you believe it?
I need a front panel that's in good condition for it.
I have service information for almost every vintage Perreaux unit from the 80s and repair these units to original spec, although it may not be practical to send something from the USA to here due to the weight!

I don't own any but I worked at a store that sold them in the SM-3 era. Beautiful stuff, if I run across the right deal I would love to have something like the SM-3/PMF3350 combo.

Service info for Perreaux is virtually impossible to find, or at least in the AK database and any of the typical repositories I have ever searched. If you have the SM2 service info, I would be happy to purchase? Please feel free to PM me.
Thanks for the Perreaux link, I've seen that before and it is a great source for pictures that are not easily found

I own a Perreaux E2 and love it, I sometimes have a hard time believing I have managed to get a hold of an amp like this.
It's exactly what I want in an amp, a simple MOSFET design with plenty of power and great transparency, it just sounds right and have handled everything I have thrown at it with effortless grace.

Never experienced the later preamps such as the SM6P (p for phono?), and it seems that after Peter left the company, the aesthetics changed pretty radically from conventional to kind of sci-fi in some cases! Though I understand all attention to design and engineering remained very high.
Yes, that is a wonderful unit! I can't find much difference between that and the SM2 other than the SM2 has an "Aux" input and the SM3 labels that input as "CD". I didn't check specs to see if those input sensitivities have changed, but that is the only difference I can find in addition to a beige power button vs. black and a push button for tape monitor vs. a toggle on the SM2. I don't know of the Model 11 you exchanged, but hopefully your SM3 will win your heart! I love the phono section, and it comprises near 1/3 the board! Inside is a work of art on both of them!
I have owned several preamps of this level of performance, and though each had certain qualities that were very pleasing, the SM2 provided all of what I liked. The only creature feature I wish it had was remote control volume, but that isn't a performance issue. Some people have claimed the SM's are somewhat sterile, and even uninvolving. It is not a colored preamp in that sense, and that is what drew me to it. One of my all-time favorites is the Conrad-Johnson PV-5 preamp, which has great detail and plenty of drama. I would certainly keep it next to my SM2, but not replace it, as each speaks my idea of truth in their own solid-state and tube ways; at least in a price range I've been able to work within!

That should be a nice match. The 23R puts out 200µV and the SM3 has a 175µV sensitivity.
Aren't most preamps Class A?
I have always loved the SA3 preamp, Al hooked me up with one again. I should never have sold my other one. In fact, I like it better then the old Krell KRS-1 I had driving my long gone Levinson 333
