thanks pasttech. look to be in excellent condition at reasonable price. i've been looking for affordable jbl 3 way in my area without any luck yet.
guess i could try these while i'm looking. always fun to experience something different.
maybe they would abate the jbl itch for a while.

I'm simply the messenger, mhardy etc. are the guys with the knowledge.

Philips made some nice stuff over the years. Their drivers were used in a lot of speakers (beside their own products).

I'd far rather listen to the 476 or 477 than virtually any JBL product I've heard in ca. 4 decades of dinking around with hifi.

Just one opinion, but one that is, at least, empirically well grounded (i.e., lots of ears-on experience).
I am just not a JBL fan.

thanks mark. i was on the fence on these but you've convinced me they are worth a listen. they are at a very reasonable price assuming they don't need too much work.

If memory serves the woofers had foam surrounds, so re-surrounding will be needed.
Those Philips dome MR and tweeter drivers were available for years to the OEM and DIY markets -- both were, from my perspective, pretty nice.
YMMV and all that, though, of course.

I had a pair of the 477; which had replacement woofers (apparently common). They are placement sensitive. in the man cave they sounded fine. I moved them to the living space and they did not sound fine. I tried to sell them (asking $50) but had no luck. So I threw them out.

Check out the drivers before you buy
