• The move to the new server is done. There are some software and database maintenance updates in process. This has us passing the hat around to help out. We appreciate any donations. Seriously, even a dollar helps. The payment page may be found here - https://www.audiokarma.org/support.html

Photobucket giving it's users the $$$haft! No more image linking unless you pay!

I use(d) PB just to keep the load off the AK servers but I'll have to rethink it if they are going to start charging.
I've not received an email so maybe they are only going out to people who have a certain amount of photos on the site? I have maybe 3 dozen scattered around various threads here and other forums so they might not care about such small potatoes. Yet.
It could be that. I've got hundreds. I'm sure there's others that have thousands of pics.

I haven't received an email from them yet. I have had a lot of trouble in the last month or so uploading photos. I really need to bring them all back to my hard drive.

It's the oldest trick in a salesman's book. Bait & Switch!

I have all the original pics on my Mac. To go through the laborious task of replacing hundreds of pics is probably not going to happen. We're talking dozens of hours at a minimum to replace them in existing threads. Very unfortunate.

That really sucks too. You are one of the posters who obviously made a big effort in photographing and using it as part of the thread. It sucks when you're reading a thread and you need the photo to understand what's going on (or you really want to see the new veneer on a JVC cabinet say) and you get the stupid kitten photo instead.

All of my photos here that I use Photobucket to host seem to be working fine. I also just posted on yesterday to see if I got a message or something stating that I have to pay to use their site to host pic's but no message and the pic is here working fine. I do pay but only 2.99 a month as I needed more space as every pic that I posted here were all hosted offsite. That was until AK upgraded their site, from that point on since they limited the pic sizes I simply just drag it on to their server.

Interesting. I really want to complain to photo buckets customer service. But don't want more attention brought to it, causing others to have the same thing happen to them if they seem fine.

I concur with Blue Shadow. Haven't received any notice from PBukt yet, and always try to use the link.

I'm more frustrated by their delays, hangups, dropped connections, etc, and will be looking for a better, more consistent way to share pics.

KingBubba has the right idea. If anyone needs a copy of one of my photos please PM me and I'll edit with a replacement.

So host your pics somewhere else. There's no shortage of free image hosting sites.

If you want to store something that's really valuable to you in the cloud, the only really safe choice is paying. Something like Dropbox or, better yet, Spideroak. A cheap 1 or 2 TB outboard drive is also a good idea.

I use the copy image in PhotoBucket then paste the link into the image icon in AK. No problems doing that now and the photos in my previous posts are still there. Of course that is after I have to wait out and carefully delete the amazing number of popup ads! Definitely a PITA. I haven't received an email from PhotoBucket regarding a change in price structure either. Maybe some phishing going on?

Maybe it is just a matter of time before they convert all accounts so they can't 3rd party host. I went to their home page and it sure looks like I shouldn't be able to host with my low cost plan.

Thanks Cat. Pics certainly help show a restoration. I'll have to do it a different way. So annoying.

This sucks. Nobody is going to pay $400 a year for image hosting. Whoever sold them on that must be a pretty slick talker.

I guess my threads will have a bunch of dead links because I'm not going back and fixing them.

I've noticed several comments about why not just use AK's hosting - the trouble with that was image size. It shrunk everything to 800 pixels wide, or maybe even smaller. That made it totally unusable for certain things like schematics, and really not so good even for regular pixels.

What are the size limits now? Is it still 800?

All my photo's have vanished from AK and y'all know I've posted tons over the years. I've sent two emails asking that if I pay a one month fee will my pictures be re-instated with the promise of no more 3rd party posting in the future. So far I've gotten no answer just automated replies.

The ads are so overwhelming I was ready to upgrade when this new sheet hit the fan.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a response.

They will probably send it out as an image link. One that will take weeks to find, and cause a hang-up after 37 seconds!
