Pickering XV-15 = Stanton 500. The factory stylus carriers looked very different, but any 500 stylus will fit.

Disclaimer - some XV-15s apparently don't have the v-shaped protrusion necessary for proper seating of a Stanton stylus. Look at yours to verify first.

Also, LP Gear sells replacement XV-15 styli. JICO probably does as well.

Edited for correction. Damned Stanton Magnetics/Pickering & Co. with their identical Moving Magnet and Moving Iron bodies.

Just a note, most of the Stanton stylii do not have the brush if thats important to you. I switched to a Stanton stylus on my V15. Looks different and no brush, but it works fine.

Looked at the stylus you refered to for $15. The original OEM Pickering stylus on Audiogon had to be almost 10X that price. What's your budget? The Marantz 6300 is a fairly decent TT and matched with a good cartridge and stylus will sound excellent. I wouldn't expect much for performance from a $15 generic stylus, it's priced at the bottom of the price range. As Sam Cogley said JICO & LP Gear have good replacement stylus, you will start to get good performance in the $50-$100 range, $100+ your getting excellent performance. The D200 may not be the original stylus that came with your cartridge from the factory but a lower cost/performing replacement. Hopefully a Pickering expert will jump in who can advise better on the Pickering cartridge/stylus.

No, that's for a V-15. It must say XV-15. And cheap conicals often require high tracking forces.

Majick47 had some good suggestions.

Also, here's an elliptical that would work well for little money:

Here's an original D625, a big upgrade over the D200, but well worth it if you can afford it:

Yup! And that particular conical wants between 2 & 5grams of VTF. There are much better choices like the ones majick47 & hakaplan suggested.

Don't feel wedded to "Pickering" styli. Stanton and Pickering started out as separate companies, but merged very early on. As long as you have that locating nub on your XV-15 (it's the front edge of the mounting ear flange), any Stanton 500 series stylus will fit - and there are a lot more options available for the Stantons. Why Stanton Magnetics chose to make different stylus carriers and brushes for the Pickering cartridges is anyone's guess. It seems like a whole bunch of wasted effort.

"Brand identity" in all likelihood. My brother used to work for Colgate Palmolive. Once after he'd been there for a short while we had a discussion regarding Palmolive and Joy dishwashing liquid. He believed very strongly that the fact that Palmolive was green and Joy was yellow was extremely important. :dunno:

arent eleptical styli the ones that wear vynil quickly and were the ones used in those suit case record players of the 50s or do people say that those wear record because you had to place nicles on the tone arms?????

And He was Right...Everyone knows that the Green Palmolive will clean the Transmission Grease off your Hands like Nobodies Business..

Actually, you have that backward. Elliptical styli are the more modern profile and are far gentler on records than the older conical styli. This is mostly due to the higher tracking force required for the earlier conicals and also the "dynamically balanced" tonearms that used springs to pull the stylus against the record.

JOSEPHDANIEL if you want the best for your vinyl and your ears follow the recommendation of HAKAPLAN and get the D625 OEM Pickering eliptical stylus. It will be huge sonic improvement over a cheap generic conical stylus.

I guess that means it's important to be green.

But it's sure not easy!
