Pioneer DSS-9 Score

Picked up a pair of Pioneer DSS-9 speakers. Great shape except the original woofers are gone:Replaced with Rat Shack cheapies...Anybody know where I can locate 2 orig. woofers?

They are part number 30-784a and are used on the dss-9 and dss-e10

Pioneer lists the 30-784s as a replacement.

But I have no further details about the driver/woofer specifications.

I think originals are carbon fibre or similar, hard to find

Good luck finding a replacement. I had a favorite search setup in Ebay to find some DSS-7's for year before I found some. Maybe you'll be lucky and find some 9's. Just so you know the originals were dual voice coil speakers. I've read that its based on a Watkins style woofer, which I think were known for there dual voice coil designs. Also they were a polymer graphite cone. They shatter easily if you do something stupid to the cone, and the original foam rots away on these.

If you do find some with bad foam, just get them and refoam them and hope the voice coils are ok.

Those are some sweet sounding Pioneer speakers.....just ask Dennydog. He might know where to find some woofers.

Has anyone ever used the dss-7 woofer in the DSS-9's? I have both speakers and obviously prefer the DSS-9's. So just would like to know if something ever happens to the 9's woofer if my backup woofers for the 7's would be compatible.

I have DSS9 woofers in my DSS7 and they sound the same to me. They look the same except for the heavier and prettier cast frame.
