Pioneer Gurus: Is this Worth It?

Found a rack of Pioneer stuff. In OK shape, I'd say 7-8/10. Has:

SPEC-4 Amp
SPEC-1 Pre Amp
CT-F1000 tape deck
SG-9800 EQ
TCX-9800 Tuner
PL-630 TT

Not tested. They are asking $1800.

Thoughts?

Good gear, but untested scares me. I'd want to audition am test myself.

A tiny bit steep, I think, for gear that will almost certainly need some work.

sure if you tried to build that setup piece by piece it would cost you more than that. id be reluctant to slap down that kind of coin unless its what you really want though

That is the issue, if I bought it, I'd flip it - I'm a McIntosh guy.

I'll see what he says on price flexibility.

slippery slope there. if you want to take the time there could be some decent money there. see what ebay units are selling for and total them up. maybe $2500 give or take? but then there is the hassle of packing, shipping, listing, sitting on the less popular pieces, dealing with lowballers.

if it were me it would have to be priced lower to jack with the hassle. im not a flipper though and dont buy to sell. i could see this taking months to sell separately. if sold together i think you see what its worth...

I been tracking on Fleebay a Spec1 and 4.....For which I have a Fully Recapped mine and was thinking about selling (local).
Changing directions with my gear.

None had been worked on:
April 21 Spec 1/4 sold 1850
May 26 Spec1/4 sold 1100
June 5th Spec4 sold 810

Spec 1 from 500 - 700
PL630 from 250 - 350

I would not hesitate, myself, but, then again, Pioneer is my specialty. Those are all nice pieces, and, when fully restored, the results would be very satisfying.

Do not move that rack around fully loaded. The top and bottom are medium density fiber-board, and the cam-locks that hold it together will rip right out. Rolling around its local area is OK, but not lifting over obstacles, or trying to carry or load into a truck. Take all the pieces out and disassemble the rack (very easy and quick).

Enjoy,
Rich P

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllll... That did not go as planned.

It turns out that the $1800 price quoted by the person there was incorrect. He is, in fact, asking $5,000 for it. Nope, not a typo.

Good luck with that. He'll sit on it if he has to, but I have first refusal if he decides to sell. This is a guy with a set of DQ-10's at $650 as well.

Oh well.

I could get that much for it, pretty easily, but that is for cosmetically pristine, and fully restored. In cosmetically pristine, yet in raw, un-restored condition, I would personally go no higher than $2,400, local pick-up only.

I have all of that gear in stacks around here, anyway. I got no more room for a new stack, and She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed wants her house back at some point in the foreseeable future.

If you have restoration abilities, equipment and supplies, you could log a $2,400 bid, in case he wants to fall back and let you have it.

Enjoy,
Rich P

Thanks Rich, I'll just wait and see. It is not in pristine condition. It would need recaps and cleanup, the EQ is missing a slider (broken off), etc...

I was going to offer $1200 as-is. I'll just wait and see - I really do not need another project.

I think he just believes he'll get that someday. He cleans out houses and such - I suspect he has little into it.
