Look at this thread and tell me if the tweeter on my S-XG4's is the same as the one on the Phase Linear P-530...Sure looks the same to me...As stated earlier, I really like these little guys, especially when stacked on an HPM-100

Great pics. I miss my HPM-1100's. My wife brought those to an end. She threw the dog's cow bone across the room and of course bounced off the floor and into the woofer. Broke a chunk out of the woofer big enough to put her fist through. Replacement cost was to be $275.00! Yikes! I've since turned the cabinets into subwoofer cabinets.

those are all fine if you like little girly speakers. Once you get bast the little HPM boom boxes then you can move up to the big daddy the S-1010 :D REAL beryllium ribbon tweeter, 14.5 inch passive radiator.

PioneerHPMLuver, look at the 1st post. I found a photo of the S-X4 from a 1981 Japanese catalog. Look in the bottom left corner for the "S-X4G". I do not know what it all means, but at least it was in a catalog...

I recently acquired a pair of S-X4g, because of the review that you gave them.

Man, am I impressed with these! I find myself listening to them in the late hours of the night, rather than the HPM-700. However, during the day, I do turn up the volume and switch over to the HPMs.

Looks like I'm bringing a dead thread back to life... I love my HPM-900's and I'm now on a mission to find some HPM-150's or 1500's!
 
Nice, I have a pair of HPM tweeters in transit and will need to rebuild a crossovere, anyone know the specs for the STV-013 transformer in the crossover?
 
15 inch hpm1100 woofer specs

Hi all,

I am new at this so don't pound me. I bought a pair of 1100's in poor shape with the original woofers missing. All Else was intact and functional. I have rebuilt the cabs and re-veneered in light hardwood. I also redid the grills and they look very good now. I would like to get the proper woofers again if possible or a good solid alternate. Does anyone know where i can get them or if not do you have the specs of the original driver ( dcr, thiel / small etc ) so i can try to match them.

I don't have the gear to measure directly. Anybody in Portland wants to give it a go, I'll bring 'em over. :wave:

That 40cm (~15.75") cast basket pulp/CF blend was used in the 150, 1500, and 1100 models. [--correction! not the 1100--]

And like that famous 'fifth essense' it's nearly impossible to find. I sure would like to hear how the larger dual-HPM drivers sound compared with Heils or ribbons. The Jetsons saucers on top my 1500's cream the 100's high frequency quality.

The Heil tweeter has an open articulate airiness which make them so desirable. The HPM-200 tweeters have an open airy articulation that seem to allow for a very forgiving sweet spot(a dipole?) and if the polymerfilm were to be unfurled there is actually 3x more surface area than the on the Heil. I cant say how accurate the HPM200 is since I havent any measuring equipment, however the speaker seems to be very genteel but will rock effortlessly with loads of amplifier juice, more the better.

Nope, the 1100's woofer is completely different than the HPM 150/1500 woofers. It is super brittle "polymer graphite".

HPM 100's 'street price retail' was $249.95 each after Fair Trade Laws were abolished in the late 70's... the original retail was $299.95 per box. My guess is... they were also designed by Bart Locanthi, the former Vice President of Engineering at JBL, whom designed the HPM-60's. At end-of-life, the prices dropped to $149.95 to $199.95.
