Pioneer SX-1010 Recap & Refresh

So, a while back i had to move on my SX-1010, fully restored by our own Zebulon and nice hardwood cover.
And it genuinely hurt me to be honest, so i have been keeping my eye out for another.
And i found one, pretty expensive, but there ain't many of them this side of the pond for sale so i jumped

It came today, all intact thankfully, it does function well (DBT and without DBT), needs a clean and a good going over, the power supply board is pretty toasty, so will need to address that first i think.
The filer caps were replaced at some point by big metal can Elco (i think) ones.
The 1451 transistors have been replaced on the left channel also.
A few other bits here and there but other than that looks are pretty good.

My plan is to restore this, will take me a long time no doubt as thankfully still employed (for now at least).
I hope to keep my f**k ups to a minimum.

This came with a nice original set of instructions and the original purchase receipt, really nice to have, they bought a lot of nice bits...

at this stage it might be wise to at least consider the new design power supply board,rather than rebuild the old,it runs cooler and doesnt stand as tall so its not likely to be damaged if its ever shipped. i just installed one on my 1010. it was a painless install and easy to build. it was 92 degrees in my shop after an hour running on fm the highest recorded temp was @140F measured with a laser thermometer

Yes the new power board is going to be the first thing I get done, I had a quick look at the current board and it's quite toasted looking. I am going to make up a list of caps and transistors shortly using the recap lists and confirm if that is what is installed already.
 
When i install the new filter capacitors i was going to use 0.47uf 630vdc panasonic film capacitors.
Are these ok to use in this application?
or is there a specific capacitance that should be used, i have seen other posts where a 2.2uf film cap is used.
I do have 2x 2.2uf 250vdc panasonic films that i can use.
 
OK so I used to 2.2uf film caps, thanks, pictures added. Probably not the neatest job ever.
Whoever put loctite on those bolts before was getting some choice words

I Know its not the neatest job, in fact i might just get rid of those old c-rings (not sure of the term) and redo them using ring terminals.

So i was measuring voltage when i installed the new filter caps, on the dbt, just generally checking everything was ok, and when i switched off the unit it seems that one of the caps takes longer to discharge. The resistor with the black on it needs changing its way out of spec, foolish me, should have checked it first. Ill be changing those old terminals anyway.
Only thing is i do not have many resistors. Dont really want to place another order (shipping costs).
And please forgive me if this is just plain stupid, i assume all the change in value will do is increase or decrease the amount of time it takes for the caps to discharge, as well as increase or decrease amount of heat generated.
Online calculators say the 100 ohm is ok, but not sure if ill create too much heat

Could i use 100ohm 3W metal film?
Original are 3.3kohm

Would not recommend 100 ohm resistor... 3W would not be enough (not even close).

Recommend you live with the longer discharging time. 3.3K resistor would need to be 1W (would recommend 2W).

56V, 22000 uF, 100 ohm = 30W+
56V, 22000 uF, 3.3K ohm = .95W
 
OK well I put in an order for the correct resistors, hopefully next pictures will be a somewhat tidier looking setup. Thanks
 
In fact, those F&T caps are pretty good and reliable. I'm sure they're up to their spec already. Did you measure them?
 
Paul. When you put shrink tubing on, heat it up with a lighter, Match, or if you're really desperate, the wifes hair dryer. You'll get nice tight covering. Make sure it's ok with her 1st (using the hair dryer) or you may be sharing accomodations with the DOG!
 
OK so I think this is much neater than before, I know iylts not as neat as you guys do it but hopefully it passes muster
