Pioneer SX 1250

Is an SX 1250 in very nice cosmetic and functional condition worth $400? Would this be considered a steal, a fair price, or too much?

Id say that is an excellent price. I have had 3 of them and they are an awesome receiver. I use one as my main system and cannot find anything i prefer more than it. I would buy it and you will know what i mean soon enough!

What's the deal with these vintage Pioneer receivers recently? It seems like the average prices have spiked up about $100+ more than before over the past couple of years. Has there been some add'l buzz passed around about the SX receiver line?

Yes there is a lot of buzz about them, esp. the 1980 which is selling for a lot of $$.
Coupled with a lot of enthusiasm about the SX line (build quality, excellent tuner, etc.) did the trick for the inflation.
I do own one 1250 and I can attest that these sound very nice. Can drive pretty much anything. One in nice condition and fully functional (including phono) is worh $400 easily.

Ditto. However, for the $$$ it's hard to beat a 1010....
