I am kind of new to this stuff but you may want to check his claim that they go for $500. Seems like it would be easy for a seller to want to believe that.....

These don't go for near $500. The top of the line 3900 (120 wpc) goes for less than $400. I own a 3900 and it is a really nice looking and performing receiver. I would say $150 max.

Looks like the cosmetics may be "iffy" at best. I say $75-$100. Definitely NOT $200.

Those have a digital display for the tuner as well as the analog scale. I don't see the digital lit up in the photo so might be something to look into.

One of the higher end Pioneer's from that era. Good receiver, but not $200.00. Mint in the box, maybe, but that one looks like $100.00 note at best.

That is not a 'nice' one. That one is "mint-y" (even has the paperwork.)
Looks to be in perfect shape, all lights, etc.

Plus it is the top of the line model.

I picked up a SX-3700 for $30 about a month ago. Has a couple lights out and needs some Deoxit since one of the channels drops out but that seemed like a pretty easy fix.

$30 would have been hard to resist. I have an SX-450 looking for a new transformer. It works, sort of, and I do like the sound of the Pioneers, warm and mellow. I'll just keep looking to fixing that one.

I bought a restored 3800 here on AK a few months ago for under $200. Locally 3800s sit for months. The asking price has been over $250 each time. I guess they sell eventually.

I sold an SX 3800 about a year ago for $175 and I've regretted it since.
Granted, $175 was basically market price for it, but sonically I'd say it's worth much more.

I have SX-3700 and like it quite a lot.
I think I paid less than $50.
