I used Black Walnut Watco and then Varathane finishing wax on my SX-838, PL-530 and HPM40’s.

I have a few to do myself (780's)....how did u cut the veneer to size? xacto knife? I have an edge trimming tool so i should be ok there.

I used a rotary cutter.
Used painters tape on cut lines to prevent splintering.

It works quite well, had the cutter for leather work.

Based on Allen72's pics, I decided to go darker with the stain. Tomorrow I'll apply a few coats of poly. I use a box cutter and a t-square to cut the veneer. Then lots of sanding.

I do prefer the darker look, what veneer did you use?
I find the black walnut stain I used is darker than original. The original has more of a golden color.
The walnut veneer is so much nicer than the vinyl.

I would love to know how you managed to remove the vent plate.

Very slowly! And with lots of IPA to soften the glue.
