PNW Gathering 2011

Hey Invalid and Art,

I was just up in Albany and Lebanon last weekend doing interviews for the new Osteopathic Medical School in Lebanon. If I had realized you guys were there, I'd have dropped by. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Albany, right fine little town you have there.

Should have figured there's AK'ers everywhere! Hope you guys have a great PNW meet in Kelso and have your own in Corvalis/Albany, the more the merrier. Give the guys in Portland two different directions to meet other Ak'ers ( and a few Lansing Heritage guys in the area too!)

Now you got me thinking of a SoCal meeting to plan!

Regards,

Bart

Dagnabbit Bart wish I'd known. My Mother-in-law lives in Lebanon. We're all thrilled about the new school in there. That poor ass community needs something and this appears to THE catalyst for change. If you get up this way again let me know. Dave (Inavalidbuffa) and I will be getting together for a meet and greet here in a couple of weeks, take care.

Art

Looks like I will not have my amp running in time for this meet, unless I can get it running by some christmas miracle tomorrow evening, but I really doubt it.

Didn't they use to have something called " Christmas in April " some kind of program to help old folks/seniors fix up their homes, how old are you, S..B?

If anybody was on the fence about bringing a pair of decent (~$50-$100) "true" bookshelf speakers, I'm here to push you over.

Also, any portlanders interested in a rideshare situation, I have a pick up with camper shell and will be leaving from the NE (Prescott & 33rd).

Stuff I'll be looking for there

I'll be looking for (6)4uf 250V dayton audio capacitors, as they are currently on backorder. I would like to finish my KLH-6 crossover rebuild sometime before next winter.

Also on the hunt for a 10" Cerwin Vega driver from a "M" series speaker, will bring a sample for comparison.

I think I will bring a pair of Polk Monitor 7's and 10's. (They sound great stacked) Polk monitor 17's.

I plan to bring some refurbished EPI 100Ws and Speakerlab .1s. I think they count as bookshelf speakers. Somebody has to provide some contrast to all of the giant JBL Dreadnaughts and Klipsch Leviathans that will undoubtedly be present :thmbsp:

Ok, I'm probably coming. But I'm just trying to decide if I should try to bring a functioning (small) system, or if I should bring some stuff to peddle. I really don't have enough room for both.

Looking forward to hearing those .1s again. :thmbsp: I have a pair of Speakerlab 1's I can bring along - they're efficient 2-way bookshelf speakers.

BTW, I will bring my old Speakerlab catalogs, and other brochures, manuals, catalogs in case folks are interested in thumbing through them.

Dreadnaughts and Leviathans? :tresbon: Looking forward to Arthur's JBL artillery. ...a pair of Klipschorns or Speakerlab K's would be interesting too.

Looking forward to seeing all the gear, I'm sure there will a LOT of contrast and variety. I think I'm going to bring a pair of Altec Valencias.

Ok, I'm probably coming.

:thmbsp: Hope to see you there!~

I wish I could go, but I'm booked up with family (in-law) duty. No way to get out of it. Ironically, I'll be driving past Kelso tomorrow. Spin some LPs for me and I'll try to make it next year!

-D

p.s. If anyone is selling tubes, I'm looking for a single 6GM8 (the auction site is too dear price-wise) - I can pay back whomever brings it up from Kelso to the Seattle / Eastside area. :D

Question for anybody who's been to one of these events:

Am I better-off bringing stuff to peddle/swap or should I bring something to listen-to/show-off? My car is too small to do both. If there will be 10 competing systems running in one room, then the swap-thing sounds like a better idea. I just have no idea how this will be setup.

In the past there have been several systems set up. There really isn't too much competingagainst each other. More looking, talking, socializing. People are fairly respectful about letting each others systems play, and then there is a point at which the rounds are made. Each person gets to show his stuff for a few songs clockwise around the room. The swap can be good if you have something someone wants, but it is generally a smaller part of the whole deal. I won't be bringing anything this year. (I don't think)

Ironically, I'll be driving past Kelso tomorrow.

So near, yet so far. Maybe dump, :nono: err, I mean drop the in-laws at Cap'n Yobys nearby for some excellent fish 'n chips, and stop in?

My experience also, there might be someone stopping by who is looking for something but it seems like most are there for the listening to different stuff and socializing.

I'm leaving now. I should be there around roughly 11:00AM or so. Please save a spot for me to setup a small system.

Thanks for putting this together Arthur. I think next time a bigger area may be needed! Send me a PM if you're ever up my way and would like to hear the 4 corner horns with 4 EV HR9040A's.

Excellent Event

I 2nd that!!!

Thanks for hosting this Arthur, so much gear in one place, met some genuinely nice people.(Am I deluded or what?)

And thanks to all, young and old, who took the time to share some fine gear and explain the details. Definitely worth the trip just to experience the gear.

Dale
Note to self: Bring large wads of unmarked bills.

Thank you Arthur for hosting a fun event and all who brought gear. It was a pleasure to meet folks again this year.
