I just got this one up and running tonight, a Teac V-40.
I installed all new belts. It works and sounds good.

Actually the transformer is not heavier than a regular transformer. The 6700, which I happen to know quite well because it's been the only deck that totally defeated me in a fix-it battle, is heavy because of the many circuits , solid build, large solenoids (one in the circuitery to activate the contacts strip for switch into record mode). For example, it has 4 differente secondaries with 4 different independent power supply circuits. And some metal holders to attach circuits all inside the deck.

It is by a clear margin, the hardest deck I've ever worked on

Well,thanks for the info :thmbsp:

Tcomisky: One of those Webcors was my 1st eBay purchase, back in '98 or '99. Mine worked too. Since just about no one was collecting consumer 40's & 50's reel to reel back then, I decided to start a collection. Now over 200 machines.

Wow

200? Wow! I'm a noob at this, always been an audiophile, but just now getting into vintage stuff, I can see how that can happen! I finding hunting for this stuff so much fun!
I have an RCA Victor 1951 console I'm picking up Sunday. It's is absolutely beautiful wood, not sure about the electronics, but who cares, the hard part is the condition.

I'm curious about the amp that's in it. 3 or 4 speakers, I'm guessing it's in stereo?? I haven't been able to find any info on it, but once it's apart I will know.

No stereo in the early 1950's. It's a 2 track mono machine, but it does play both sides without flipping the reels. Unless you mean the RCA - That certainly won't be stereo.

Gotcha. Yes, I meant the Webcor, it's actually has 3 speakers. One on each end and one smaller (tweeter) in the front. What would that be characterized as?

The RCA Victor is self explanatory, it's only got one speaker. :)
..but it's a BIG speaker, looked to be 15" but I didn't look very close as it was buried in a corner of a storage container, I could only see it from the front, that's why I have to wait til Sunday to pick her up.

That Webcor came in various cabinets - a suitcase style, the one you have in faux wood, and a larger one with a drawer. I've seen the recorder itself in maroon like yours and in black.

I don't know if there's a proper word for the configuration other than multiple drivers (speakers.) It's certainly mono. Just has more drivers to sound better.

There should be a cover over the heads too.

The Webcor wouldn't be considered hi-fi, but it's a very nice sounding recorder for that time period. They are tanks and not bad to look at.

This tape deck sounds great, especially with my Maxell MX90 tapes.
