Post a picture of your turntable

Hi All

Here's one of my 301's. It's almost 16 years ago since I made the acrylic plinth. The turntable is completely decoupled from the acrylic by means of butyl pads above and below inside the feet.

Underneath the plinth, is a clean powersupply which also provide current for the 'strobe on a stalk' at the left and the solenoid-switched mono 'on the button'.

Some of the Garrard's levers underneath act as activating controls and all the bits for these are fastened with doublesided tape so there's no damage, should these be removed.

The arm is a bastardised Micro, fitted with a curved magnesium wand and fitted with an sme type socket for rapid h/shell changes. The wand originally was part of the landing gear from an r/c helicopter...

Hi Gourmet,

Sir, would you know if your model (and/or) make Turntable is the unit that was by ALEX in Stanley Kubrick's "A Clockwork Orange" ? Looks very familiar!

Tom Patrick aka SixCats!

i know you guys are jealous, but you can stop anytime for a listen. this thing has the ability to turn every s, t, and f into a "shh" noise. how many of you guys tables can do that?

if you only knew who made those...

and the turntables they make for others, you'd think twice about shelling out big $$ for one of those tables.

Seriously, the company that OEMs about 90% of those "nostalgic" turntable/cd player thingies also make turntables for some well known (and reviewed) "British" turntables (noteably one of the companies that begins in "R"..and no, not Rega).

I think you'd be very afraid...(well perhaps not, because some of their "other products really are reportedly quite good).

Thks, Clyde

Yours is nice too. One of these days I've got to do something about a 401 resting here.

Cheers

It's been a zillion years since I saw Clockwork (so I may be wrong), but wasn't that 'table a Transcriptors (Hydraulic Reference, maybe)??:scratch2:

Philips 408

I have more than one, but here's the one I am currently working on - a Philips 408: I bought it new for lawn mowing wages when I was 15. Pretty decent starter table.

After the six month break-in on this Lenco build, no question about it: She’s a keeper. Lots of fun in designing and putting it together. An investment that’s paying me back in kind.

The homebrew 20” Warbird tonearm will come out of winter mothballing for redesign tweaks.

That's a gorgeous table, Mopic. Have you tried any other arms on it yet? Love the sliding tonearm board. :thmbsp:

Thanks so much Joyce,
Been running both a Rega 300 and a Sumiko MMF 4 from the rails this winter; just wonderful retrieval from both arms. I’m so pleased with how the rail/armpods turned out that I plan to incorporate them into at least two of my summer builds.
The first out of the gate will be that Presto Pirouette with a Garrard TPA-10 mono tonearm.

2mg5vft.jpg

It’s got an adjustable length tonearm and an adjustable offset headshell. It’s like the pod/rail system was made for this tonearm. With all those vintage mono carts out there – demanding their own specific set ups – the Garrard in rails will allow for multiples of set-up trials – nearly on the fly.
Then there’s the Metzner, some more Lencos and a ROK Rondine, if the summer lasts that long.

All best,
Mario

Technics SL-MA1. This will have a new owner this weekend, but I'd thought I'd post it for posterity.

I love the looks of the Presto anyway so that project ought to be pretty wonderful too (although the Lenco is just so good...). That Garrard sounds like a wonderful TA. I've never heard one so I look forward to a review (as I bet you do too!). :)
I've got a couple of TT projects too. I posted up my new diy audio rack in diy and now I've got to build the TTs to populate the top. I'm figuring a ROK Rondine Deluxe and a Thorens TD124MKII but it'll take a while 'cause sailing season is here and we're starting racing this weekend. :)

Joyce,
You're sounding more intriguing all the time. Sailboat racing!?! Can we expect to see you sailing up the West Branch of the River Rouge for AK Fest? I'll definately have my camera out for that.
In the meantime, I'm off to check out your DIY audio rack.
All best,
Mario

Post a picture...

Hi Mopic5

It's sure nice to see that TPA10 arm. I recently bought a TPA12 in a very corroded state and spent quite a few hours in cleaning and re-lubing it. It originally came with a matching cream h/shell branded Shure but I decided to use a nos Garrard brown bakelite h/shell with it.

This shell had only 3 pins but I turned a 4th pin on my lathe for it.

The idea is to use it for my 78's and I also had a Shure SC35C 'broadcast' cart here, for which I made a new cantilever, harder suspension and fitted a 78rpm profile sapphire stylus to it.

I decided to use the arm with one of my plinthless Garrard 301's and then had to make up the 'mini' armboard from pink ivory hardwood.

This is what the setup looks like.

Hi all,

Blue, I did a bit of research on the "A Clockwork Orange" turntable.
The Turntable was a TRANSCRIPTORS HYDRAULIC 13 designed by a
Mr. Gammon. J.A. Mitchell was issued a license to build this design
(in Ireland) by Mr. Gammon. One can read more by doing a Google search
"A Clockwork Orange Turntable". Interesting stuff! Ooh Blue, I too have not seen "A Clockwork Orange" in a looong time however, "A Clockwork Orange" is one of my FAVORITE films of all time!

Righty right!

Regards,
SixCats!

Tripod nice pic,s of your 301 and setup.
What have you found regarding the plinth less versus w/plinth
sound difference on your setup?
