Pro-Ject RPM 1 Carbon opinions?

Hi everyone, this is a great community!

I'm very interested in getting the RPM 1 Carbon, as it seems to have solved the motor hum problems that the Debut Carbon had. Does anyone own this? I've been searching for clips in YouTube, and the few that are available are not really helpful at all. If someone could share their experiences it would be very appreciated. I have a budget of aprox. 325 pounds (460 dollars or 425 euros), so I'm looking for something "cheap", but as good as this price range can provide.

Yeah, the lack of a proper cover sucks, but it does look like a neat option. I' really like to know how is the RPM 1 compared to the DC, since they basically have the same parts.
 
I like my RPM 1.3 well enough. It is dead quiet and doesn't pick up any bad extraneous vibes, even when I am playing at +100 dB sound levels. The manual operation can get a bit annoying, but then again, it does keep me from being too sedentary. When not in use, I keep it covered with a 14"x14" piece of precut fabric (available at Wal-Mart, in many colors/patterns), which does the job just fine.

Would I purchase it again, given what I have learned in the few years since I had procured it? Probably not, but not because of anything that I find glaringly wrong about it. It is just that I have learned that the same amount of money can buy a really decent, more substantial older table and upgraded cartridge.
 
I have a 1.3 and have really enjoyed that table for the last 3 years. And I see the peanut gallery has already taken their seat.
 
Agree the smart money, 325 pounds, would be spent on a really decent more substantial older table and upgraded cartridge. Much more bang for the pound/euros/dollar.
 
Thanks for the useful replies, guys! What used models around that price range do you suggest? I have searched for a used SL1210mk2, but haven't found one here in England for less than 400 pounds in a good condition. I was also checking the Rega P1 Performance Pack, and the wow and flutter seems to be a bit better than the RPM1 Carbon, but I don't know if the difference is substantial enough to choose one above the other.
 
The best of the budget turntables is the Rega Rp3. Brilliant arm, superb after sales service and not a turntable you would need to upgrade for many years, if at all. New, that is probably the best bet.

Secondhand - Thorens, some Aristons, Systemdeks etc. No guarantees. The SL1200 has gone from being a bargain to being overpriced.

I am heartily sorry for having offended thee. But yep,I've listened to a few (even a S/H one) and examined 'em and I'll stick with my opinion (after all,that was the question of the thread). For the money,you could buy something like a second-hand Pioneer PL-630 which is in a totally different higher class league sound and build quality wise!
I don't like to see money wasted on junk when you can do miles better.
 
And here is where we disagree. I have a 1.3, and use it almost daily. I have old tables too. Enjoy them all. Ans, never have I thought this is crap. Sounds great, looks great, and the Sumiko Pearl that they come with here sounds pretty damn nice. I'm not offended really, just makes me realize statements that are made like this lets me know not to take much else that poster post seriously.

So we can agree to disagree ;)

Well, there is no plinth. But the biggest part of this whole thing is, I OWN the table. I don't need to read reviews :D I have some nice tables. A Thorens TD-160 with stock tonearm and an M91ED cart with a Jico SAS, A Micro Seiki BL-21 with a Jelco SA750D tonearm and a Denon 103. Is the pro-ject 1.3 better than those? Of course not. But it holds its own with my other tables, and has been in service since I bought it.
 
Daunia, while your opinions are certainly appreciated, put yourself is other's shoes who may own this table and realize that your descriptors of "crap" and "junk" are downright offensive and unnecessary. This exemplifies the type of attitude that this forum strives to diverge itself from.
 
Since the OP is looking for something "cheap" and probably is very cost conscious his best bet might be doing research here on AK and find out what could be some decent tables in his price range that are available in the UK. Ebay UK might give him some ideas as to desirable tables and what they are selling for. A few UK AK members have managed to purchase some well above average turntables from local charity shops in the UK for amazingly low prices.
