Pro-Ject RPM 1 Carbon opinions?

I'll take my Pro-Ject 1.2 over my Dual 505-2 any day, and I would rank the sound quality as near equal (certainly warmer) than my Technics SL-D2. I would also rank the 1.2 over the slew of lower end vintage DDs and BDs I've owned or have owned in the past. And I have owned a LOT of them over the past few years.

Daunia 70 like me you should consider it a badge of honor to be on their "ignore" list. As for the OP he shouldn't have to settle for the new production mundane entry level offerings. A good AK friend called me the other night and mentioned how a friend that is new to the audio hobby has managed in one year to find/buy some amazing equipment, flipping a few items to make the journey so far pay for itself. He's elevated himself well within the upper range of vintage midfi audio equipment bordering audiophile and has quickly learned how to discern between marginal entry level offerings and truly decent audio equipment including turntables that have cost him peanuts.

Interesting that there is often more divisiveness in these conversations than there is commonality.

We, as devotees of this hobby, are a relatively small subset of the population. You would think that we would be a more cohesive group.

Just saying...

OP, don't pay attention to the negativity here. Find a turntable that YOU enjoy. There's always going to be someone or a group of people who will tell you that you should have bought something else. Ignore them; the only person you need to please is YOU. Everything else is just background noise.

Maybe you won't like a Pro-Ject. Maybe you won't like an AR XA, Thorens TD160, Technics SL-1200, [insert another much loved vintage turntable], etc.. Try and audition what's available in your price range, be it new or vintage.

Side note, whenever I've flipped a turntable I ALWAYS audition it for the potential buyer, with a new stylus/belt and correctly set up. I'll let them decide if they like how it sounds.

What irritates me is that Pro-Ject have been makin'/sellin' crap TT's for many a year (so many young fanboys who know no better).
Back in the late 90's I purchased my 1st brand new Pro-Ject,a debut 2 (pic below) for around £200. It's total crap,in fact one day I'm just gonna bin it.
Always hated the thing (build/sound quality are laughable),even a low end vintage Technics would wipe the floor with it. Just wish I had some honest opinions so that I didn't waste my money, but back then there were no hi-fi forums/internet.
So,I'm no snob, just tellin' it exactly like it is.
The RP-1 is even worse!

Well you got burned...and they're all crap? You're entitled to your opinion, thats your right, and we all have a right to think you're being silly! You got burned....and chances being more so, due to the fact the company had a start up in 1990.

And if every one shared in your opinion, Pro-Ject would be out of business. The facts show you are aren't even close.

Let's everyone remain respectful of each other. Name calling is unacceptable.
