Daunia, I think you may be needed, and quickly. Some rebels have started a thread on the entry level U-Turn tables, and they are giving it positive reviews. I fear that it may be getting out of hand...

Naw. I'm kind of fond of my RPM 1.3. I don't think that I would make a good instigator in this case. We share a common bond with our Orbit brethren, I think.

And I might add....the NFL did us wrong...and yes...the Bues suck! Mizzou sucks and To hell with the Cardnals..good thing I have my audio rig!
 
I attended UMich, and am a fan of the blues genera. The handle just seemed like a natural fit.

And hey...I am a Lions fan. Enough said in that regard :thumbsdown:...

I settled for a very used (by a non-professional DJ), but in working-condition Technics SL-1210MK2. It needs a couple of twitches here and there, but it works perfectly, no buzz from the motor, the buttons and lights are working perfectly. I just need to get a new set of screws for the cartridge that was attached to the headshell WITH TAPE (???). Anyway, it comes with one of those Pickering PD07-C 10.0mV output. I might change it, but I'd like to try it out first, see what's like to have such a loud stylus.

Btw, I got it for 250 pounds (360 dollars), so it wasn't badDSC_0012.jpg
 
A very decent table. Hopefully the previous owner did not trash the arm bearings. If you can spruce up the cosmetics that would be awesome. Personally I would get a good quality cartridge for it, and have peace of mind knowing your vinyl is being well treated.

You're right Mister Pig, I might just get an AT95e as an emergency, while I decide which would be the best option. At least that stylus won't ruin them, lol!

I have the similar SL-1210M3D. Technics headshells are around $20 here in the US and I have accumulated several so I can switch already mounted cartridges in and out with ease. For rock, I prefer the Audio Technica line of carts. For jazz, Grado. The Ortofon OM line sound good too. Many of the Ortofon Concorde style carts (Pro S, etc) have the internals of the OM series. One can buy some really nice sounding OM styli for the Concorde.

You might consider pulling that platter and putting a drop or two of light oil on the motor bearing. There are a ton of old threads here at AK concerning improvements that can be done to make the 1200 even better. Enjoy!
 
Thanks for the nice words and advice, guys! I'll definitely put some light oil on the motor bearing. This turntable is been very used, but it's definitely built like a tank!
 
I'm glad to see the OP kept an open mind after being bombarded from all sides. He did great with his choice of a 1200, a couple cartridge screws is an easy remedy for the tape, price was right in line with US prices and from the photo the physical appearance isn't bad at all, just showing some "character". I'd be swapping out the felt mat for the Technics standard heavy rubber mat and as he mentioned a better cartridge along with ordering a Technics overhang gauge. Parts and accessories are easy to get in the UK with such a big Technics 1200 following there. A much better investment than a low end Project even if it was new.
