With Nevada kicking in $750 million to build the Raiders a new stadium, NFL teams have now received nearly $7 billion in tax money to build stadiums over the last two decades.

According to an analysis from ESPN, the total price tag to taxpayers for building new stadiums and renovating old ones has been $6.7 billion since 1997. That includes 19 new stadiums and three major renovation projects.

And there we part on agreement.

Propaganda is very powerful, todays media is nothing more.

We see things different most the time Steve but your a good man, I do know that.

I'll leave it at that:(
The NFL afaik has been a tax free enterprise for decades, go figure.
It's entertainment many American males can relate by their own experience, show business. The business model goal of show business is putting butts in seats, according to Oscar Hammerstein iirc. Nobody in the stadium is making money on this, consider the motivation.

Otherwise, been a while since we chatted, trust you have been ok.

I think it would have gone a long way with the public had NFL players and their community leaders would have "taken a knee" about black on black crime years ago instead of this ham-fisted knee jerk display.
Many of them quietly give back to their communities thru donations, sponsorship, and mentoring.
Otherwise, not my demographic or my call.

Many aspects of the entertainment business including professional sports and filmaking enjoy tax free benefits.
US venues like these have been a window for the world for decades to American culture, imo.
Tune in let's see what been happening lately:(

And herein lies the problem, a lack of understanding on the issue. None of them are "protesting" the anthem or the flag. They are acknowledging the flag and anthem while on one knee to bring awareness to other issues that cannot be discussed here
Millionaires protesting social injustice . Good Grief . Their job is football . Get on with it .

True patriotism is to risk putting everything you have into realizing the ideals of your country, regardless of the consequences.

Actually, loyalty, Defense of country, Part of military oaths. Not a word for rich assholes with issues to even consider. We have people dying daily defending flag and country. These players can FO!

Here's something for you constitutional scholars to enjoy -

Wasn't that oh-so-naughty? Pretty cool stuff, huh? They didn't show it but at the end she grabbed a fistful of pelvic fat and made an obscene gesture. The constitution gives you the right to provoke people into hating you - and it also gives people the right to hate you in response to the provocation. So stop trying to sweep this under the constitution. OK - let's kill the thread. It's getting political. Kinda. Methinks.

And I can protest with my wallet as well . Simple really .

I give them credit for putting it all on the line for something they believe in, without consideration of financial consequences to get the message out.
I agree. BTW, where were the tribal outcries when these same players wore pink shoes and socks to bring awareness to all the women suffering and dying from breast cancer? Why don't the haters protest when a these same players write the names on their equipment of young children dying from cancer through Make-A-Wish? How about when they wore 911 caps on the sidelines in honor of 911 victims? Is their job really to stay quiet and just play the sport?

One positive result of performances of this low standard is that professional and gifted amateur singers now present the anthem instead of the embarrassment of random incompetent guests.

Usually I like these kinds of threads to run to their natural conclusions -- I'm not real big on stifling free speech. But the more I read, the more I realize that the horse is dead.

It's time to let go.

Funny how many people value our freedoms until they're practiced.

A solution to this thing is to do away with the anthem before games and also do away with the militaristic displays---these things are political by their nature and so invite a political response. They have nothing to do with Show Business; they don't play the anthem at the movie show.

The NFL and the majority of the owners are supporting the players. They are less concerned about the "offended" fans as opposed to the CTE issue which will certainly have a long term affect on the sport. The kneeling thing will pass.

Safety has been severely compromised by size, strength, and speed and CTE symptoms continue to rise. Changes to rules and improved equipment will be paramount for the leagues future survival.
