Quaint Quips & Quotes!

Time to show what a nerd I am. "A pig in a poke" has the same origin as "let the cat out of the bag"

A poke was a type of sack, used to hold/carry small livestock (such as piglets) at markets etc. Sometimes dodgy merchants would try to pass of a cat as a piglet to an unsuspecting customer. So you should never buy "a pig in a poke" without looking inside. Always have a look inside you may just "let the cat out of the bag"

Yea Caddisgeek!
These sentiments should be in the hall of fame & they are I believe are universally known.

Nice,
Rome

Yeah, we had "Gully Washers" & "Toad Soakers" here...Any of you boys ever had a "Moon Pie & a Yeller Dope"? Or put peanuts in yr Coke ? An' maybe Ozmoid & Fotno know what "Cattywampus" is, but I bet none of the rest of y'all do...

Actually (going back to the OP) you do have two pipes, the bronchial tube and the esophagus. It is the pharynx that keeps food out of the bronchiaa. Or as we say here "It went down my Sunday throat."

I heard a good one in a movie once. It was used as an expression of what you would do, rather than something else you don't like.

"I'd rather eat cat sh*t with a knitting needle"

Ahhh Sandy!
You are taking me back home with the moon pie (chocolate).
Now the peanuts in the coke I did not get into.

Explain Cattywampus!

Two pigs in a poke.. what's a poke?
Snug as a bug in a rug
Don't let the bed bugs bite
When pigs fly
Chip off the old block
Beat with an ugly stick
Goes over like a fart in chruch
That will fly like a lead ballon
Better a life of Oh ****'s than What If's

Hi Merrylander!
Ahhhh, I have some ammo now for my ex.

I recall hearing the expression applied to a smart a** "Well ain't you a fart smeller."

HEHEHE, that is a good one ML!

Hi Leesonic!
Once again here is one I am not familiar with.
Now, this one intrigues me, it is yet funny, but with some cerebral fortitude! :thmbsp:

Hi Similost!
You have some here that are true candidates for the hall of fame.

Once again, if I had a dollar for everytime I heard these:
Snug as a bug in a rug
Don't let the bed bugs bite
When pigs fly
Chip off the old block
Beat with an ugly stick

Great Klassics,

"Cattywampus" means all messed up, like a pile of newspapers or something similar all over the floor...Or when yr young 'un has got his toys & stuff all over the floor, made a big Melluva Hess...There's ANOTHER one !

Just Klassic stuff there Sandy!

I thought of these while responding to Sandy's post.
Anyone remember these?
I'm gonna beat you like a rented mule!
Getting whipped with a wet noodle!
I'm gonna be all over you like stink on ****!

Rome

Hard rain = "Frog strangeler"
Cattywampus also = "Cock-eyed' or crooked, leaning, etc.

Having had a relative who was a refugee three times and could speak 5 languages, idiomatic expressions were not one of this person's strengths...malapropisms were common:

"It was a pigment on his/her fantasy" supposed to be "It was a figment of his/her imagination"
