Rare Albums

There are a lot of rarities out there and you might even say that LP rarities aren't rare.

I had a clear vinyl copy of "No Deposit, No Return" by Tuli Kupferberg of The Fugs and a promo copy of "Sanders Truckstop" by Ed Sanders, also of The Fugs, or, as they are called in Italy, Gli Fugs.

I'm sure there's a wierdo or two in your collection. Howzaboutit??

Rare albums- cripes, I got 'em, but many of 'em, so kinda hard to call out any single one.

I never stopped buying vinyl, so I amassed a collection of pretty neat stuff in the late 80's, 90's, and early 2000's.


One that I'm extra happy about- a Jonathan Richman untitled of demos, one of 200.

i don't have any rare LP's but if you want to check some out look at Mojo's Weird Record Club every month, stuffs so strange that it's hard to beleave anyone ever let them record it to begin with.

I have three spoken word albums by Harlan Ellison. Two are hand numbered and signed by the author. They were rare when they were issued. I don't know how rare they are now.

I have "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong" by Declan McManus. Bootleg. Rare? You tell me. Great stuff, early demos. Found a copy of "Great White Wonder" by Dylan in a thrift store. Saw this white album, was bummed that it wasn't "the" white album, and then **** my pants when I realized it was "THE" white album. Gave it to my brother the Bob freak.

"I want to go home (wreck of the John B.)" by Lonnie Donegan. I've got that on 78.

Curved Air "Air Conditioning" picture disk. One side has nude figures printed round the center of the disc. Each figure is slightly different from the preceding figure so if you watch them they dance while the music plays.

Christmas card from Malaysia with thin red plastic disk of Oriental choir singing "Jingle Bells". Almost unplayable, the record's only about 3" diameter.

Let's see, I have an LPs of The Masked Marauders, Mom's Apple Pie (original cover), first pressing of Crosby Stills & Nash and Allman Brothers' Eat A Peach, an Irish pressing of Small Faces Ogden's Nut Gone Flake in the round fold out cover, a few of the really early MOFI LPs with rain, thunder and trains and Dire Straits Love Over Gold Quiex II. As to how rare these are may be debatable but some are obscure too.

I also have a Doug Clark And The Hot Nuts On Campus. Anyone remember them?

Baby Let Me Bang Your Box! I have "Knockers Up" LP by Rusty Warren and some Blowfly albums around here someplace. I forgot the "party records" until you reminded me.

They yanked that Mom's cover fast, but not fast enough so that it didn't get notoriety. And The Masked Maurauders...I love "Season Of The Witch". Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen. Do you have the review insert?

I figured. It just wasn't a part of MY "required listening" list. I got my copy a few years back when I bought a box of LP's at my usual source these days, a garage sale.

Back when I was a teen (the 70's) one HAD to own:

KISS - Alive

KISS - Destroyer

Cheap Trick- Live at Budokon

Boston

Rush - 2112

Ted Nugent - Cat Scratch Fever

Meatloaf - Bat Out of Hell

Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon

Aerosmith - Rocks

Aerosmith Toys in the Attic

Anything Beatles or Stones.


Of course, we all had our personal favorites, but if you wanted anyone to come over to YOUR house, you needed at least these staples.

Mount Eerie Pts 6&7 picture disc/ hardcover book (limited to 2400 copies).
Joy Division Komackino picture disc, which I believe is a bootleg, but authentic and of limited production.
Pinback Loro 7" (original)
OOP copies of MF Doom's Mm... Food and Operation Doomsday on vinyl.

and for the CD side:

Madlib Mind Fusion 1-5, which were only sold on tour.

I have plenty of "collectible" albums, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that they are rare. (Talking Heads/Rauschenberg Speaking in Tongues, original mono pressing of Sgt. Pepper, etc)

singing The Beatles,It's called "Why don't you come up and rock me sometime." I also have Test Pressings of Billion Dollar Babies/Alice,1984/Van Halen,Captain Beyond/Captain Beyond.

A friend of mine in high school had a copy of Captain Beyond,,, I still remember Sufficiently Breathless.

I recently set up my spin clean that i got for christmas and dug through some albums that were thrown in when i bought my used Magneplanars....

I can't tell you if it's rare or not, because i can't find any pics of it on the interweb or any copies for sale past or present on ebay....

I have a test pressing/advance promo of Billy Idol's Rebel Yell single. I don't think it's all that rare or valuable but I think it is the rarest non local record I have.

If you want to include local I have a 1 of 300 record from the early 80's of local music. Test Patterns is the name of it and it is St. Louis area Punk/Ska of the time.

This one "might" be considered rare, the early 1969 pressing of The James Gang/ Yer' Album, on the Blues Way/ABC label. This has the repeating run out grooves, and it says "Turn Me Over" on side 1, & "Play Me Again" on side 2. Even the more common ABC label pressings (without Blues Way) aren't really common, so I'm calling this "uncommon" at the very least. I got this one today, along with a NM 2nd U.S. pressing of Pink Floyd/Ummagumma (text starts at 8:00). I already have a few copies of Ummagumma, but this one really is NM, on the vinyl, & the cover's VERY nice too, so I couldn't pass it up. EDIT: On the inside of the James Gang gatefold cover, there's a producer's note, saying: Producers note: This recording was mixed to be played at the highest possible volume, and not to be listened to in stereo headphones until after at least three [3] times through the speakers. Those of you with manual turntables, don't tell your friends about the last grooves as they will break their automatic turntables trying to listen to them. Special thanks to Dennis Laventhal and Joel Sill for their blown minds and reactions.

I met Doug Clark and had casual acquaintance with several band members. Doug died in 2002 but I think his son continues the group. Saw them live several times in Chapel Hill and once at Myrtle Beach Pavilion. Regretfully I don't have any of the albums but I have a sealed cassette, "Freak Out". Like the albums, the cassette has the "Gross" label.
