Rare, hard to find, uncommon Pioneer components

I have done a few searches on this forum for Pioneer S-D1 speakers and nothing comes up, has anyone heard of them or know anything about them, other than they are rated at 30w and have a maximum of 130w, made in Japan, 6ohm.

Would a Allied 498 be considered?

it has all Pioneer internals? Built by Pioneer?
Thank You
Yes, the Allied 498 was made by Pioneer on an OEM basis for Allied Radio. Pioneer also built the 333, 399, 395, 435, 445, 490, 495 and one or two others. The 498 was a combination of the SX-2500 automatic tuning tuner and the SX-9000 output section if I remember correctly. I personally have a 395, a 495 and a 498. Pretty units and all three work, albeit as headphone drivers for me. I have them in an Audio Advisor "Vulcan" rack in my bedroom for headphone listening when I don't want to crank up the main system in there (tube based). The rack also serves as a night stand, lol.

@Primare and others. The Pioneer DT-400 is scarce here also, but not unobtainable sotospeak, I own one myself. However the analog full mechanical flipping letter version with otherwise same dimension and somewhat same basic look, is almost non existant here. They only seem to exist in Japan as far as I know! Anybody can shine some light on this?

Forgive my English, I have seen that there is some interest in the DS-55F switching unit model, produced in the late 1970s and intended for official Pioneer dealers. I am in possession of a complete specimen, in excellent condition, also equipped with the very rare Nixie display, fortunately still fully functional. I want to contribute to the knowledge of this particular device, posting pictures not only of the outside, but also of the inside, in which you can see the great skill in the assembly by the Japanese. An absolute masterpiece of connectors and soldering made in the golden age of the Japanese company. Thanks for your attention.

You get extra points for gear with Nixie tubes.

There's a Pioneer Stereoscope SH-100 on the auction site right now, apparently new in box. Apparently this is a tonearm connected directly to a stethoscope - no amp or speaker required!

Hello, some time ago I was lucky to find a Pioneer SD-1100 at a reasonable price. Unfortunately one of the power transformers, part number ATT-097, is non functional. I have been struggling to find a replacement for this component. If anyone knows where I might be able to source this part or a different compatible part I would be forever grateful. I am willing to pay handsomely to get this awesome piece of gear working again.

He did a lot for the others here, and then one day, he was banned. No idea what happened.

Hello everyone. I am looking for a vfd display for the Pioneer M90 - display
FL AAV1003.

For those of us who are in to collecting Pioneer components, what are the components you feel are the more difficult to find, prior to 1985?

Items that I see as being difficult (from "almost impossible" to "showing up on ebay every couple of months") are:

SD-1000
SD-1100
P-D1
P-D70
Series 20 components
HPM-150/HPM-1500
DS-40F
MXA-1
SM-Q300

But these are part of a group of components that I am interested in, so I am not looking at other components from other groups.
Doc

I own an SD-1000, and a number of other 1970's era Pioneer components not listed here. HiFi Shark is a good tool for finding what you want anywhere. https://www.hifishark.com,
The rarest item on my list is the original Pioneer paper manual for my SD-1000. Would gladly buy it if someone has one.
Kindest regards, Jim

I’m not super familiar with the brand but I’ve got a pair of pretty cool looking “griffin” 2-way speakers that are hermetically sealed. Another AK user has a thread about them somewhere. They opened them up and they contained fukuin (early pioneer) PT-2 horn tweeters. Pretty slick looking, circa 1959.

All I know is that they look great and are one but a few way back then that had such driver placement, which is acoustically correct when the speakers are placed on short stands. I'm not sure those were ever available in North America or Europe, the pic comes from Japan I believe.

Took me 5 years to find decent working ones. Rare Pioneer QD-240 CD-4 demodulators i'm 'talking' about!
First one I bought two years ago from eBay. Perfectly working and tested an calibrated. Payed close to $500,- bucks for it including shipping.
When it got delivered and took it out of the box, I noticed that they had obviously switched the demodulator for a not working one with cut powercord. Whole left channel lower volume with distorted sound on, direct 2 ch phono, or auto, or CD-4 preset  I haven't had it fixed yet! It is the one on the attached photo's on top of - and now the good news - the two I bought last month the same day on ebay for plus minus $300,- a piece including shipping from two different sellers that got delivered yesterday (together with a Pioneer 600A rear amp), and actually do work as described in listing

Almost a Pioneer SD-1000. Maybe this seller has a manual :deal:
More serious note: Try vintage hifi dot com / (free) vintage hifi manuals. Or buy one origional or copy on ebay. And no I'm not affiliated with neither of these offerings or document 'sources' mentioned in this post of mine!
