If you like the Minimus 7, (I have about a dozen) then you should take a look at the Canton Plus S, same size but everything the Minimus 7 wishes it was.

They also made matching subs, the Plus-C a passive, the Plus-B powered.

also came in a very nice real wood veneer, quite rare so not so cheap, all of mine are black

These were not cheap when new, saw the passive Plus-C subwoofer in an audio store many yrs ago in the wood veneer, if memory serves it was $650, fine German engineering like this doesn't come cheap.

The Plus-C also mates well with the Minimus 7.
 
I don't think the chart was accurate. How would this account for a pair of Walnut 7W's, which if I interpret the code on the back of them correctly, were Made in Japan in April on 1980? But, according the the chart, they didn't come out until 1982?

Minimus-7W (Cat.No. 40-2039) was introduced in the 1983 catalogue, though actually on the shelves for purchase by fall of 1982.

A Minimus-7W date code "4A0" would suggest that it's a Cat.No. 40-2039B, and was built in 1990.

They look to be made from carpet underlayment. It is made from recycled fiber and wool. I have used leftover pieces from jobs to line speaker cabinets. Must have a cnc machine or similar to cut them. Probably 3/8". Wouldn't work on a 7w though, nless it fit in the grill.
 
The listing states the insert is placed inside the grille, then the grille is remounted on the speaker.
 
So I was in a thrift store and came across a lone Minimus-7. It’s in really nice cosmetic shape. 40-2030C made in Japan 8327 12A7. Being afflicted with the “sickness”, I couldn’t help but buy it. When I got it home I realized I’ve never seen a woofer like this one. Earlier in this thread someone posted a replacement woofer with a poly cone and a cardboard ring. This woofer has a cardboard ring, and paper woofer with rings. Has anybody seen this type of woofer before?

Not familiar, but could be a replacement sold by one of the parts suppliers. The frame is the same as an original.

The original surrounds probably disintegrated, and the original owner replaced them rather than refoam or toss them.
 
OK, just for shits and giggles I took a pair of SD14 tweeters from Lafayette PIP Speaks and switched them with the SD50s I had in a pair of 40-2030A Realistic Minimus 7s.

I have a pair of 7s with SD13s (not original 40-2030s). I’m gonna do a shoot-out between them and see if there’s a hearable difference.

The Lafayette tweeters are about 1mm taller than the 7s and about the same width. They fit perfectly and the mounting holes lined up just right.

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll get a chance to do the test.

This is how boring retirement can be sometimes.
