I've always been a fan of these little guys.
Currently, I have a pair (black) hooked up to a Pioneer "quad" receiver with another
pair of Optimus 5B's.
The "balance" control is rolled off to about a 70/30 split with
the 5B's being the 70%.
Very nice set up.
The 7's accentuate the mids/highs with the 5B's filling out
the bottom end.
I just sold a set of 7's to a friend of mine along with a Sherwood receiver
(very reasonable)
He needed something for his new apt.

Hi new here . helping neighbor move ..lots of junk lol. found these 2 speakers in a box wrapped in trash bag , he said he dont remember when or where or how he got them , he gave them to me , i am trying date them can anyone help,, the speakers and the electronics are different one seams older

Hi, Denis. Welcome to AK!
The older 40-2034 was built in Feb. of 1985.
The later 40-2034A is from Feb. of 1988.
Though essentially the same speaker, there are a few physical differences between them. Most obvious visually is a metal tweeter face-place on the older version vs plastic face-plate on the newer. Also, the older grille should be aluminium, while the newer is made of steel (a magnet will verify the difference).
The crossover networks are actually the same electrically. They both have a 4.7uF capacitor and 0.4mH coil. But the older coil is wound on a large, round plastic form where the newer has a compact rectangular form.
Silver 40-2034 / 40-2034A is the only Minimus-7 model line where every one was made in Japan. The had a 9 year run (1981 through 1989), then replaced by White M-7's (40-2045) in the 1990 catalogue.

so I have quite a few of these little guys, and I was just pulling out some of my old automotive electronics, head unit, amps, speakers, and I came across a pair of Kicker Resolution R4 4" mid/bass full range drivers.
These were slightly modified to fit in the dash of a 1988 Toyota 4X4 pickup, this required removing one mounting flange and bending another. These were the third set of replacement speakers I tried with Rockford power in the truck.
The first were a set of Polks, they didn't last long before giving up the ghost. Those were replaced with a set of Infinitys, lasted longer than the Polks until one night the right side speaker actually caught on fire. If not for the other 6 speakers and twin subwoofers in the truck I might have noticed the Infinitys were under stress before the fire lol. Was a bit harrowing to be driving down the road and see flames in the dashboard, I pulled over real quick to douse them.
The Kickers were expensive but worth every penny, they took everything the Rockford amp had and laughed. Liked them so much I pulled them out when I got rid of the truck in 2003.
So anyway, I'm wondering what they might be like in the Minimus 7's, might have to mount them in a pair and run them against a stock set.

I believe the Kickers to be less sensitive but thinking their 4ohm rating might make up the difference.
Might be a fun experiment, it's either that or try and sell them to someone with an appropriate year Yota, hate to just toss them out.

Probably only risky with high power testing. Kickers might soak it up unfazed at levels where the tweeters would die ... maybe in flames!

Just to throw more confusion onto where and when each series where made.
QC code is 0040. Date code is 9 A0 Can't remember if I bought these new or if they are one of the thrift shop sets.
I have 4 sets of 7s two pairs of wall mounts and two floor stands plus a set of their big brothers the 11s.

That was made in Japan in Sept. of 1990. Which is consistent with the chronology chart in post #166.
Model 40-2030C began production midyear 1987, when it and all other models got the new plastic face-plate tweeter. Production remained in Japan until the end of 1990, though manufacture was also ramping up in Korea late that year. So all models that were built during Nov. and Dec. of '90 can be found from both Japan and Korea.
Your very low serial # 0040 can be dated fairly precisely. They made thousands that month and September has only 30 days. Your sample was very likely built during the first working day of the month.
Sounds like you have an ample Minimus-7 collection. Modded any crossovers yet?

Not yet but after reading through some threads I definitely plan to. Wondering if anyone has ever modded a set of 11s. Seems like those could sound better than they do.
So this must be the first set I bought to use as rears my old Sharp "Matrix Surround" receiver! I'll have to pull the others out and see what the dates on those are.

Not to get too far off topic, but the Canton Plus S are great. They can play low if you ask them (and if you aren't afraid of using tone controls or some equilibration). Better yet is to pair them with a Plus C sub. I'd also add ADS 300s/L300s to the list of great sounding small speakers, although they're a little bit larger than M-7s and Plus Ss.
For what it's worth, I just sold six black Minimus-7s along with their mounting brackets, but still have four more of the black ones (early version) and a pair of the original 7Ws with wood veneer on the front baffle. So, yeah, I'm a fan.

I'm sure I posted these earlier, but here you go, the Plus S and Plus C also came in real wood veneer, and there was also a Plus B powered version of the sub.
My oldest son has the setup in black that I gave him, along with a Lafayette integrated amp and tuner.
I have that sub, got it at a sale for $15. Using it now. There were 4 minimus 7 at a thrift store last week for $12, all 4, not each. It took all my will power to pass on them. I still have a pair of 7w and extra tweeters. Oh and a pair of those with the set back tweeters, 77?, on my tv.
That would most likely be the Pro X-77 if they have the Linaeum tweeter, had a pair and liked them very much after a few modifications to the enclosure.

ah, well the Pro X77 had a slightly larger woofer and the Linaeum tweeter in a stepped baffle for time alignment.
I used a spray on vibration blocker (isoblock, it went on like clay) on the inside of the enclosure to stop the bell like ringing, and filled them with acoustic damping to tame the vent tube turbulence hooting.
Mounted them on sand filled stands paired with a Canton Plus C passive subwoofer like above in black, really rocked.

Good morning ! I just purchased a pair of Minimus 7's, and I'm trying to obtain manufacture data. The QC sticker on the rear shows " No. 4923 and 12A0", for one speaker and "No. 4801 and 12A0" for the other.
They both have part numbers of 40-2045, and sticker says they were custom mfd in Japan for Radio Shack.
Can someone provide me with any data showing when these were manufactured?
