Realistic Minimus 7 ID Thread

Another pair passing through my hands, Minimus-7W in gorgeous condition, 40-2039B, both 11 A 9, SN 1831 and 1835. New owner is really happy with these and his T-100 speakers through a Realistic Quatrovox receiver. As I have said before, love these little giant killers, a black pair holding fort in our bedroom and a few more in the garage awaiting their time to shine. Great and long thread.
 
I won’t say except to say I’m missing the walnut cabinet version only because I didn’t realize what I had years ago and let them slip away.
 
I received a pair of nice RS Minimus 7W free from a friend. Other than dullness, the cabinets and grilles are great, both badges included. the woofers are not the 40-1234, they were replaced by the Optimus 40-1030 poly.
I have put Mortite on the frame indent to seal the hole.

I have had 4 pairs of the various models. Still have two in use, traded the other two at various times:
For my TV - a screw terminal version I got at a rummage sale paired with an old Bose Acoustimass 5 subwoofer I found on a curb. Powered by a black plastic Sony receiver of some unknown vintage (thrift find).

A pair of the white OPTIMUS PRO-X44AV ported series as remote speakers in the kitchen, fed from my living room TA4650.

IMHO the original version sounds better than the ported.

RS sold a ton of these. Back in the 70's they were just about the best, most cost effective speaker to put on the back shelf of a sedan. Paired with the likes of a Pioneer KP550 underdash cassette/radio, they sounded really good for the time.

They were also respectable as home speakers, esp. with the subwoofer option. Not great, but couldn't beat the value for their size.

I have 3 pairs of the 7Ws and one of the best things about them is the walnut veneer. A light sand then some Danish oil in Dark Walnut and you are all set for them to look brand new. I use mine as computer speakers and rear surrounds for the front HT.
 
In 1989-1990 I was working a checkout in Loudon TN for Kimberly-Clark. We were in apartments for 6 months. I had my recently rebuilt ST-70 hooked to a pair of black Minimus 7s.

A musician friend came in and didn't believe the sound I had. I moved the 7s to the floor from on top of a Banker's Box and he realized that they had been playing all the time. He went out and bought a pair.

OMG, I have a set of T-100's (90% sure) and I thought that they were utter crap.
I replaced the woofers with some $20 PE and a little more stuffing in the cabinet and I thought they improved considerably.
But of course, if your friend likes what he hears, that is what is most important.

EDIT: And more on topic, I used M7's back in the middle 70's as car speakers. I remember I'd blow them out, and RS would replace them. I did that for a couple of years, they existed in my 1968 Camaro RS convertible. That car came to an unhappy end. Not sure what happened to those specific M7's.
 
 
I have a pair of 7’s with the screw terminals. There in my Florida home. I’m the original owner. Liked them so much I bought 2 more pairs! The other pairs are later models with spring clips terminals. They also came with brackets to wall mount. When I go back to Florida I’ll look at the serial numbers.

They've gotta be real early examples with screw terminals.
 
 
I have a pair 7w, replaced woofer with an Optimus 4" full range. Added a coil and glued a Dayton 5/8 dome to the faceplate. Replaced the 4.7 cap with a poly 3.3. They're awesome. On my TV I have a pair of Optimus77s. They use same drivers as the 7 except they're mounted behind the front panel.. and the tweeter is stepped back to align the voice coil with the woofers. They are so realistic that sometimes it seems like someone is in the room with you. I haven't modified these.
