Recapping SX-636

Does anyone know of a usable substitute for the 6800uf filter caps on the SX-636 (35v)...they were used on many of the Pioneer units of that era. I cannot find an exact replacement. Thanks.

How exact? Modern caps are physically smaller. You can use another larger capacitance value, but 6800uf is a standard number. You don't want to go too much higher, but up to 10,000 should be ok. They were rated -20 +80 percent so the diodes should handle the inrush current.

Your main consideration is getting the same diameter on the replacements, which will make mounting then much easier.

Take the measurements in millimeters, that's mostly what's used nowadays.

You also may want to go with 50v capacitors, but going higher in voltage would not gain anything and just cost more - unless you can get a physical diameter match in a somewhat higher voltage and are willing to pay the premium...
