SX-636 dim display

Descartridge

Stereos been berry, berry good to me!
I have a Pioneer SX-636 with a display problem. The blue illumination through the black dial plate is very dim.
The lamps have been completely replaced.
Has anyone experienced this and is there a fix?
Thanks

Who'd you get the bulbs thru???

IIRC, WJOE had a problem with some bulbs in that they were 12V, but marked 8V. The problem has been corrected I believe.

I think I've seen a few examples posted here showing the older black-faced units fitted with LEDs showing off very bright, sharp features and dial definition. Just a thought.

Thanks Watt, I will give this a try.
I did replace all of the lamps with 8v 300ma lamps from the recommended supplier and the display is still unpleasantly dim.

How dim is it, I just picked up a 636 and its not a super bright display. Though it is easily read. Personally I'm not a big fan of super bright LEDs for these receivers.

I've had my original SX-434 since new. 5 Fuse Bulbs (paralleled). Looks the same as what Water's picture is showing. It's NOT supposed to be overly bright, like a MArantz is at times. It's more of a "heavy glow" in that it's trying to get the blue thru the black of the dial face. You put too much wattage back there and you'll wash out the black.
