REGA RB 600...Need HELP!!!

Nice- how did you fix the issue?

Don't sweat the casting marks- shouldn't affect tue arm at all, performance-wise.

So- what was the off-canter azimuth cause? And how did you resolve it?

It was the person who assembled the arm. There was nothing wrong with the actual arm. Assembled it back and made sure the gap at the bottom, between yoke and bearing housing of arm are all even. That was the the thing i noticed that's why I decided to take it apart, it was un-even. And while I was at it, I grabbed a small smooth file and filed the bottom of the head shell, removing some of the paint and high spots. Now the are is square and true. Also put some teflon bicycle grease in the coil tensioner to get rid of what they say ringing (did they really hear the ringing? lol). Now my TT is singing. And with this arm, I can really say, I does sound WAY better than my 3009. I bought this arm with the aftermarket weight, Incognito wires and Michell VTA adjuster so I think it is way ahead of the SME. I wish I had a listen to it in stock form. And I was going to send this am back to the seller...good thing I didn't. For $350, this is a sscore.:music::thmbsp:

I thought the degree to which it was off wasn't that big - but that doesn't mean there wouldn't have been an audible effect. Good for you noticing something like that - or maybe it's more obvious in person.

Wish I had that arm for my TD125.

Excellent!

I'd say $350 for a hot-rodded RB-600 is a deal- that's an expensive arm, probably at the $1000+ range, with all the mods.

Having owned 'em (and also the Jelco/Sumiko/Audioquest arms) I think the stock SME is still excellent, giving very little up to the Rega RB300 in stock form, the Jelco/Sumiko/Audioquest mildly better.

But hot-rodded, the Rega arm starts to compete with the big boys, like the modern SME 309/Iv/V sweeties.

Congrats on success!

Looking at the pictures, are you sure that's an Incognito rewire?

What do the RCA's and the external wiring look like?

Just asking as I have done several dozen of 'em, never seen the cartridge clips cut off like that...and, all kits made after Garth passed away have twisted pairs of white/blue and red/green wires, which you can see at the pivot point area on yours are not twisted, just loose...

Might be a very early kit...but I'd have to see the lead outs and RCA plugs to know...

According to the audiogon seller, they are INCOGNITO wires. Not sure myself but it also has that gold thing at the bottom of the assembly. Some pics of the RCA.

OK, it's an early kit, one actually sourced from the original designer...it's just been updated a bit by the new purveyors of the current version...the internal wiring is different from the stuff Garth used and has a different insulation, there is also a silver wire version available now....I'd like to rewire my Ittok with that....

But, rest assured, you do have an Incognito kit...it's just been a while since I saw one of the originals...I rewire at least 5 or 6 Rega based arms a month, so, to me, it may actually seem longer than it really was since the originals were around....

I also want to thank you for illuminating the idea that the arm can be misaligned in it's saddle and how to tweak it a bit to correct azimuth...most of the arms I do come in sans table, so I don't really ever get a chance to examine azimuth...something else to think about in the magical world of analog!
