Remastered Beatles Vinyl: Will you buy?

Good lord, you haven't heard SPLHCB or the White Album in mono? Remarkably different mixes.

Nope. I never thought to look for mono versions of any LP. I have to say I like the seperation and soundstage hearing instruments in different parts of the room and the Beatles are no exception. Thats just me. I have one Mono LP and it sounds dull to me but I am used to stereo.

Good Lord! :smoke:

After reading about Dr Ebbetts I decided to sample Abbey Road.

I played the MFSL one in my dvd player through my JVC receiver into Boston Acoustics A150's.

Now what they said about the bass end was true it was much deeper than the normal CD, it had the usual ping pong effect in the stereo dept and sounded good overall.

It's a shame that MOFI don't re release the albums on Vinyl, now that would be exciting.

They are still in business and have some good titles still but all the Beatles ones are out of print.

Sorry about the "good lord" thing. That was rude.

Well that was the old MoFi.

First of all when MoFi did the Beatles LP's back in the 80's Apple had really no control over this, just EMI England.

Apple does have final say these days and their answer is gonna be no.

Besides MoFi screwed up so many Beatles titles with their poor eq choices, who'd want them reissued unless you want sloppy bass and over-hyped high end? The original LP's from the UK and most European countries sound so much better.

Re-energized

Just got back from the McCartney concert last night at Fedex field in Maryland. At 68, Paul is still a fabulous performer. I thought I'd share a few rather poor photos with you.

Unless the releases turn out to be real dogs, I'm fairly sure I'll be buying the collection.

Granted, this is all just marketing-speak from an online retailer, but this is what they say about the stereo cds:

At the start of the restoration process, engineers conducted extensive tests before copying the analog master tapes into the digital realm using 24-bit/192 kHz resolution and a Prism A-D converter. Dust build-ups were removed from tape machine heads after the completion of each title. Artifacts such as electrical clicks, microphone vocal pops, excessive sibilance, and poor edits were improved upon as long as it was determined that doing so didn’t at all damage the integrity of the songs. Similarly, de-noising technology was applied in only a few necessary spots and on a sum total of less than five of the entire 525 minutes of Beatles music. Compression was also used sparingly and only on the stereo versions to preserve the sanctity of the dynamics.

-----------

The marketing-speak for the mono disks is about the same, except for this: NO COMPRESSION WAS USED ON ANY OF THE MONO MIXES. Worried about dynamics? Breathe a sigh of relief.

This is what they did to the Metallica 45rpm series too IMO.

For those wondering about the differences in sound between mono and stereo, UK and U.S. pressings, as well as yellow and black Parlophones versus Blue Box era pressings, there is a great new site called Beatledrops that has soundclips from various pressings. I have featured the site on myvinylreview (link is under my signature) and you can read more, hear a few clips from Revolver, or go straight to their site.

The source you wrote is intriguing to me. However, the neutral point of view in the comparison experiment is not feasible due to the conditions the web master conducted the experiment and also the electronics used.

Has anyone else heard any of the cd remasters yet? I've had a listen and have now posted a full review of the 2009 remastered cd of Abbey Road, as well as a comparison to the U.K. vinyl on myvinylreview. The cd sounds pretty good, but I believe there is the potential for the remastered vinyl to sound better. The review link can be found within my profile.

Amazon is sold out of both the stereo and Mono box sets via preorder they state the Mono box set will no longer be limited to 10,000 copies but will still be limited. The only place I found a price was Barns and Nobles they are also presold out the price was $259.00 for the Stereo set no mention of the Mono at Barns and Noble.

As much as I would like to get this for the wife (she's the big Beatles fan in the house the Price is a bit much at the end of construction season with a long winter of unemployment checks in my future.
