Revival of the CD…

I started buying them during Covid, used on eBay or later, when the lockdown eased, at flea markets. I like to play them in original album order. I avoid compilations created after the artist's career (for example there are like 1,000 Glenn Miller CDs that were created long after his death.)

I regularly buy new and used ones at my favorite "Record Store". I've bought a few collections off of Barter Town and Craigslist as well. The format is not dead. Storage is the big problem when you have several thousand of the damned things. Not as bad as LP's, but still a pain in the tuchus.
I have both lps and cds room for booth!
I still buy a new album once in a while too , but CD's have overrun me .

I'm not really seeing this "revival" thing play out as there are so many places that I've been to recently with CDs at bottom dollar prices and then plenty of folks who apparently feel that they're so worthless that they are just giving these things away. Some of us obviously do feel that they have value, but I'm not seeing that reflected in the buying habits of the general public. All of which is fine with me as I've been expanding my collection nicely in last few years and finding lots of great titles on the cheap, or even free...
Though it was 30 or so years ago that I worked at a record store at the time when CDs were very much overtaking LPs, it still doesn't seem that long ago and I still clearly remember thinking about just how expensive this new medium was. It seemed pitched at rich folks. I couldn't see myself investing that much on music and so I held out for a long time before I bothered getting a CD player. I only bought one because of all of the promo copies of albums on that format that I had amassed from working at the record store. Even used CDs at that time where far more than what LPs were going for and springing for a new CD was rare... so my CD collection got off to a pretty slow start in those first few years. I'm glad though that I was still buying vinyl because that stuff was cheap then, and I bought lots of nice old titles that are worth a lot more now. It seemed like few people were interested in that stuff though, just like few people are interested in CDs now...

I just plain prefer physical music. I can touch it, it's mine!! I do stream a lot, but keep a note pad handy to write down music I like and then go buy a physical copy. I buy more CD's than LP's. I have cassette tapes, but haven't bought one in a long time. I've always really liked LP's due to the artwork and extra info and sometimes free goodies inside the sleeve.
+! on CD -- still listen to .... never gave up on CD's -- today was lucky at the dump - they had 3 huge trays full of CD's - take whatever you want ... no time to surf through 100's of CD's, so I just grabbed about 15 - no idea what I would get , but now am enjoying Grover Washington, Jr. "Winelight" from 1980 --- has been so long since I heard this ... a total rediscovery with better gear... and the physical thing is even more true with vinyl which is always fun to touch ..

Certain things are better on cds others on lps. Like them both nothing like owning a hard copy! The most likely utube wont always be free ! And I’m to cheap for a streaming sevice !I still buy a new album once in a while too , but CD's have overrun me .

There's a lot of stuff I want that would cost thousands of dollars to track down and buy the vinyl that's been released on CD for next to nothing. So it's a no-brainer getting the CD.

There still hasn't been near enough time that has elapsed for this trend to develop in a solid, definite way. There may possibly be tiny inklings of something starting, but there's no doubt that we're still only in the very, very early part of the cycle, if that. Keep in mind how long it took for the vinyl revival to take effect. Meanwhile, enjoy the bargains!
