I remember he ran for the presidency.....he didn't win though!
I guess he's not alone in that regard.

Believe it or not, I read Nigger when I was 10 years-old . I think it might have been the first "adult" book I read where I didn't see the movie first (like Planet of the Apes).
I subsequently obtained a book of his jokes (with pictures), which certainly were different from what I saw on TV. I especially remember the following night club quip - "Wouldn't it be funny if this was burnt cork and you folks were being tolerant for nothing?" I needed an adult to explain the premise, though.
I also saw him in person in college (when he was more political and less funny, though he still used humor to get his point across). I believe I currently have two of his early 1960s albums (East and West and In Living Black and White).
