Sansui 7070 Speaker Select switch replacement

I have a spare Sansui 7070 I ordered from eBay quite a number of years ago. When it arrived the speaker selector switch was badly bent. UPS Insurance reimbursed the cost so it was free.

After it sitting in the basement for 8 years or so I dug it out and fired it up yesterday and it works and sounds incredible. When I first got the unit I asked a repair shop about fixing/replacing the switch and they told me it was impossible.

I think replacing the switch would be well worth it as the unit is in nice condition otherwise. I do see a spare switch on eBay now for around 90 bucks.

My question is, has anyone here ever successfully completed this repair? I've removed the case and it looks like it would be pretty easy to do once all of the stuff is out of the way to get in there. Any advice or instruction on what to remove, what needs to be de-soldered/re-soldered etc. would be much appreciated. If anyone has had success I'll go ahead and order the part.

Is just the shaft bent? Perhaps you could pull the old shaft out and replace it with the shaft from the eBay one. Then you could try and straighten the bent one and put it in the donor.

Otherwise take good pics before removing the wires.

Thanks Rob. Yes, I’m pretty sure just the shaft is bent. Long ago I attempted bending it back and one side of it broke off. If possible I would much rather just replace the shaft, thanks for the advice.

I’m pretty handy but don’t have much experience repairing stereo equipment. What’s the best way to remove the bent shaft?

I’m thinking I may have a path forward using epoxy and shrink wrap tubing based on a YouTube video posted by 12voltvids.

I ended up opening the bottom panel just to see how accessible the switch would be. It’s right there and would be easy to remove, but soldering all of the wires back would be pretty tricky.

If anyone else ends up coming upon this thread, I ended up gluing a small piece of plastic to the side of the shaft that was broken off. Then I used the extra surface area provided by the plastic piece to glue it back onto the side of the shaft that was still attached. Finished it off with some heat shrink tubing and a little more glue. Switch works great.
