No I do not use any clamps or weight, Its all in the glue the timing and the roller.The glue I use is not off the self at home depot, for first time atempt I would use solvent based spray contact, its very sticky, like 3M You can get this at more retail stores.It is way more exspensive that the glue I use, but if you are only doing one it is plenty.

Here are a few more shots of the completed case, it is just sitting on top of the receiver and not screwed in. The photos of the start of this project show a diferent case because i made more than one case .And that one is not ready.The photos are not very good compared to looking at the case live in person, the color is darker and the grain has more depth ect.

Very,very nice work.....I have done a modest amount of veneering
and appreciate the skill and effort to create these results....I too
will be contacting you, with more questions.....Thanks for sharing
the process with us, pictures are invaluable.....Aside from the nasty
fumes, are there other 'shortcomings' to regular solvent based contact
cement?....I've never used the backed veneer, just straight 1/32" wood
veneer, mostly oak ,cherry,and walnut.....Thanks, T:thmbsp:

Didn't know you were an AK member...attached are some pic's of a case you made that finished my 9090db restoration. It didn't need a case but I just could not pass yours up. I took these pictures 2 weeks ago right before it went into short time storage.

The case I made you was one of the five I made back then , the first ones with a solid walnut front edge,the newer ones I just made have a soild walnut front and bottom ,your case is using a different brand veneer, that I think is closer to the original.But I like the wilder grain of the newer style case .It is all personal taste.I do have one of the older style cases left they do not have a solid bottom, but have the same grain as naderpes.And Thanks

Tom, I also received some of your cases (Three to be exact). If I remember correctly we traded three cases for a 9090DB. I add my vote to Tom's cases they are beautiful. One is residing on my 990DB. The others are decorating a couple of 9090DBs. Great work.

I just got 3 cases back from Tom, one each for a 7070,8080, and a 9090.
Outbound the 7070 and 8080 were in fair condition, but peeling vinyl, the 9090 was trashed, it had a bunch of gouges and huge chips of missing veneer.
The repaired cases are beautiful, and I will post a pic after the weekend where I can move the stuff outside on a sunny day so you can see the woodgrain matchups and edges.
Sharp edges, perfect grain matches, correct beveled edge, and nice finish on all three, makes for a spendy 7070, but I want a set of X0X0 receivers for the museum that represented the line well.
Cost was $100 each, and about $80 total for shipping. Worth it? Yes.

Hi I have not made one yet . I am waiting for a donor case to use as a template. I will never do a 9700 because of the integrated grill, too hard to make and ugly and weak.Thanks for the coments.
