A little side-bar to this thread, since getting into tubes in the last 5 years or so, vinyl sounds much better to me w/tubes than w/SS amplification. Might be my set-up, but I’ve tried several different SS amps, and tubes are clearly a more desired preference. Perhaps it’s because that’s what was the only or “standard” format back in the day, so everything has derived from that. Just a theory.
 
Very possible Playittwice - we have to put ourself in the audio world of 19xx if we really want to understand the choices driven by the tech capability and audio "ideals" of the day. Then add in the predictable skirmishes between engineers, accountants and the sales dept.

In that sense we are listening to history in not only circuit design but also mirrored in, are pop culture, economics, wattage wars....even real wars.

Imagine being a fly on the wall in an executive session anno 1973 - the 9500 is on the agenda....what do they discuss.
