This seems to suggest that on a mass scale across most hi-fi systems from this period the RIAA designs conditioned our ears to deviate towards "warmth" for vinyl playback.
A little side-bar to this thread, since getting into tubes in the last 5 years or so, vinyl sounds much better to me w/tubes than w/SS amplification. Might be my set-up, but I’ve tried several different SS amps, and tubes are clearly a more desired preference. Perhaps it’s because that’s what was the only or “standard” format back in the day, so everything has derived from that. Just a theory.
