Schiit Fans ?

Modi 3+ (times 2), Vali 2+, Saga +, Lyr 3 with multibit card, Loki mini. Someday I will seriously compare the multibit card to the Modi 3 but thus far I’ve been too lazy. Lyr 3 with multibit beats Vali 2+ with Modi 3, but I can’t say how much is due to the DAC. I’m very happy with all of it, but find I don’t use the Loki much.
 
I only have the Schiit Mani 1 and it sounds more or less OK for the price and has some versatility in gain settings but it is very noisy (as in a lot of hiss at the usable gain setting of 42 for MM cartridges) maybe they have improved that issue with the Mani 2 but I'm not motivated enough to try the newer version.

Opposite boat, never had the Mani1 but now that I have the Mani2 I'm very happy with it. Dead quiet, and an improvement over the phono stage on my 45 year old Mitsubishi preamp. If you do decide to buy one, be prepared to wait. I waited over 6 weeks for mine, but I'm glad I did.
 
The Bifrost 2/64 is in and I’m presently burning it in with a Jotunheim 2 and a pair of Sundaras, which are also burning in.

So far, I will say that the Bifrost is pretty impressive over the Sabre card in the Jo. The Sundaras need more time because after 40 hours the subdued treble is just starting to open up.
 
Still on my workbench but ready to clean up and bring inside...

BTW-- To use those Chinese Tubes one must use Socket Savers. I'm using 4 of them. Some people say they help keep the Freya cooler

Jason Stoddard (of Schiit) in his book describes the ABX listening tests they do for comparing their gear. Some people can hear differences easily, others can't, and there's often no rhyme or reason for people's preferences even when they can hear a distinct difference.

Most interesting to me are the two completely different versions of Shiit's $99 Magni headphone amp - one made with discrete components and the other with op amps.

My son w/grandson came over for a hour last night... He said I had the tubes wrong in the Freya+ :rolleyes:

I allowed him to switch the pairs around... Shuguang CV181 are now in the Buffer side (left side looking at Pre) -- Tung-Sol , power side

Same amp

Maybe he was right. Less 'tubey' and tighter bass. More sparkle upper end

I'm guessing that the best way depends on the Power Amp.

I believe the Magni Heresy was designed as a tongue-n-cheek creation. After being dinged a few times, by ASR, over how Schiit gear measured, the Heresy was introduced as a great measuring head amp. I'm not sure if designing for great measurements affected performance, but ASR liked it. :)

Too funny. I guess with the different sides, and the wide variety of 6SN7 tubes, the Freya+ can be tweaked to sound any way a user wants. One day I'll upgrade my Saga to a Freya. But, the Saga still sounds awesome. Especially after I upgraded the capacitors.

I'm also planning to upgrade my Gungnir to Multibit. Though, with the chip shortages Schiit is experiencing, I'm not sure how soon that'll happen? Plus, some are saying the new Bifrost 2/64 now sounds better than the Gungnir! What to do?
