Schiit Fans ?

Took one Saga + from a system that is not being used and listened to the results (as dedicated), for the hell of it. In my opinion it is an upgrade over a single Saga +, with matching tubes obviously. I clearly hear an exponential difference in detail. There where at least three decades old songs where i thought "oh so that is the correct lyric". I will have to run through the list again to re experience those epiphanies and others (i have slept since then coffee hasn't kicked in yet) There were several etched in my brain songs, where guitar licks were more detailed, not just different sounding, more toward the artist's craftiness chops. Percussion too.

Schiit should look into making a dedicated tube/lsst preamp product and call them Hella(s). in my opinion.

I added a Lokius 6 band EQ to my system this year. It is the icing on my hi-fi cake! I like the balanced XLR feature, and...it is Silver! Adjusting the tone to suit the music, my room, and my tastes makes total sense, and completed my setup. Well, that plus adding an Isotek Evo3 Polaris power conditioner!

Too funny. I guess with the different sides, and the wide variety of 6SN7 tubes, the Freya+ can be tweaked to sound any way a user wants. One day I'll upgrade my Saga to a Freya. But, the Saga still sounds awesome. Especially after I upgraded the capacitors.

I'm also planning to upgrade my Gungnir to Multibit. Though, with the chip shortages Schiit is experiencing, I'm not sure how soon that'll happen? Plus, some are saying the new Bifrost 2/64 now sounds better than the Gungnir! What to do?
Well, from what I gathered from headfi.org the upgrade may have changed the balance of the BF2…. so “ better” may be jumping the gun. And maybe leaning towards a leaner sound.
Components are all about balance IMHO.
As always YMMV.

My Bifrost OG (original generation) MB DAC does exhibit limited deep bass, and it definitely has a slightly boomy mid-bass. Forward in the upper mids as well. But, like all Schiit MB DAC's, the longer it's left powered on, the smoother it becomes and the better it sounds.

In comparison, my Gungnir D/S DAC has tremendous bass, tighter and much deeper. Great bass slam and dynamics too. Using the Gungnir, seems as if a subwoofer has been turned on in the system. Now, hopefully for X-Mas, I'll get it upgraded to MB, so I can experience the same 3D dimensionality of the Bifrost MB.

Sure.
I think I have a better handle on the changes now.
I agree-no better way then just to try it out in your system.

Well... I don't know what this has to do with the subject at a hand (though I don't really care as I'm OK when discussions get off course), but I do dig SST stuff, particularly the minutemen. I've been a fan of theirs since they actually existed as a band (before the death of D. Boon). It's been said that though the Velvet Underground didn't sell a lot of records that everyone who bought one seemed to have started a band. I think the same could be said for the minutemen. I remember here in Portland during the 90s that it seemed like nearly every other classified ad looking for band members listed that band as an influence. I played in a couple of different bands that definitely had that influence as well...

Thanks, I appreciate it-off topic happens
SST junkie here......
Last time I saw the Jerks was '91 when the Twins where playing in the World Series.

C Kirkwood pointed it out-it was fun-but it's really nice to make money-I have bills to pay! Things I want to do.
As referring to the Nirvana/MTV gig.
I knew Grant when he worked Cheapo Records on Snelling
Thumbed more then a few times from Rochester to St Paul and back
Basement gigs-dives HS auditoriums, 'Westerberg and the jokers....cool times at the time-a lifetime ago.....
Rarely think about these days unless a trigger pops up-
Thanks

Getting back to the topic.......
I have my board on order-10-12 weeks.....
Once I went back and did a critical listen-the various reviews made sense when you kind of stitched them together.
So it should be a worthwhile improvement.
For my self-the current version is such a easy listen-I don't think about the BF2.
I'm hoping for the most part this will continue with the new board.
Especially once I recap my Infinities with Jatzen Superior Z's.
If it's too in your face-I'll throw the board up for sale.
The NS feature-cool-but I'm sure it's similar to every other NS DAC out there.
They have a signature sound, mostly varying bass/midbass emphasis.
I had my go around with them-but in my case, the colored sound grew tiring.

2/64 card on right
OPA1656......same used by some Modi and BF1MB modders.

Without going into a whole medical history i had to make adjustments to the tweeter circuit of my crossovers to suit my ears years ago. Fortunately the medical problem is now better controlled. I say that to promote the Loki+ here. Instead of going back in and re-tweaking my crossovers, i used the Loki+ to restore the treble i had previously attenuated via xover alteration. The way Schiit allows for broad and narrow adjustments on the Loki+ allowed me to dial them in very cleanly.

As for Saga's as dedicated L and R, that continues to be worth it to me because it provides the ability to control the sound to conform to my unique listening space. The sound quality is improved over a single Saga in my opinion. So i feel fortunate that i had bought two Sagas, originally for separate systems. If Schiit were to make independent Saga like pre's with a (6SN7 or LSST)/SS that when combined landed in a price range between a single Saga and a Freya that would be a Hella fine thing. Since my Sagas are dedicated to my listening space the volume knobs on the Sagas are at fixed levels. Granted my overall volume control comes from a laptop, and when i want to use the TT i will just use one Saga, however synched volume control of the two units would be a potential option for a remote control in a dedicated pre set up, really for any manufacturer that chose to explore dedicated pre amps in the discussed price range.

I’ve had the Bifrost 2/64 for about 2 weeks now. I came from the gungnir multibit, and I’ve also had the old Bifrost multibit and the modius.

I can tell you that Mike Moffat (Schiit dac engineer) still has the good stuff. Detail, dynamics and imaging all on par or even better than the Gumby. Gumby SNR is 115 db, while the 2/64 comes in at 124 db. Now I know that specs don’t tell you the whole story, but still.

Every generation, they seem to find solutions and improvements. BTW, they are saying that the Gumby’s days are numbered due to parts/chips no longer in production.

Too bad, Gumby was a great DAC - glad I moved on before it obsolesced though :-)

What cable are you using to connect the Raspberry Pi to the DAC?

Umm, back to the original subject -

I currently have a Freya+ and an Yggdrasil Analog 2 DAC in my main system. Freya+ is running Tung-Sol 6SN7GTB tubes (although I find them a bit microphonic, but only noticeable when operating the volume control.) Power amp is currently a Purifi 1ET400A connected via balanced outputs on the Freya+ and my primary input source is a Pi2AES/Raspberry Pi streamer with Roon. Using all balanced inputs and outputs, the system is perfectly silent.

Very happy with both Schiit components. Had a Bifrost for many years and upgraded it to the multibit, before selling it off and going with the Yggdrasil. I've never had a quality control issue - everything has just worked as it should.

Just a FIY.
If you have a BF2 OG… just my opinion, take a pause before ordering the new card.
Read some of the more detail reviews… especially if it fit in their system as well as mine.
It certainly may indeed be going backwards with a new card.
A number of different reasons but you’re certainly going to lose the Analogue Devices “ meat and potatoes“ sound in favor of a (TI chip signature) more airy, deeper and wider soundstage.
More accurate, A bit less euphoric for sure.
It’s not a Gungnir sound for sure.

It does seem to be going in a different direction.. maybe in part because of the different chips.
IMHO the BF2OG was a bit of a departure as well…
It’s one of those rare pieces of audio equipment you can play anything through it, and that sounds good, to outstanding depending on the quality.
Makes the most Of what you put in it.
And I do prefer the BF2 OG in my current system over the Gungnir MB.
That’s not saying the BF OG2 is a better component, the Gungir audibly has more potential.. i’m just not interested in fine-tuning it at this point
So we are pretty much listening to the music, like the good ‘ol days… not analyzing your equipment.
Kind of like a good all around performer cartridge back on this days.
You really enjoyed playing your collection again.. even those shitty RCA music club additions.
Out of all the Schiit Dacs i’ve had in the past, the OG BF2 certainly seems to be the most analog sounding to me, due to the soundstage, and textural presentations
Reminds me of a Denon Dl160 on a nice DD table.
Just my opinion but you might wanna take a step back and do a system assessment first… and avoid a potential Schiit storm case of upgradedious.

And just to add that’s one thing I would like to see.
Is for example some one going from a Schiit BF2 OG, to A Yiggster OG (ed-the Yiggy More Is Less TI chipped DAC) what type of changes they made system wise to optimize the change.
Seem the headphone guys are more likely to make changes for obvious reasons… but if you have the right information from them on why and what changes they made.. you should be able to apply some of it towards a speaker driven system.

I bought my Bifrost 2 OG last October and in June I bought an Yggdrasil OG. The Yggdrasil OG has a very similar sound signature to the Bifrost 2 OG, The Yggdrasil OG has more refined detail and more refined sound stage. I listen to 50's, 60's, 70's and early 80's rock and roll, I also listen to classical music. The Yggdrasil OG's refinements are more noticeable with classical music. Other than upgrading to the Yggdrasil OG, I have not made any changes to my system because i did not feel it needed any optimization. To me the Yggdrasil OG is a more refined Bifrost 2 OG, both have a nice full sound and an nice analog sound.
