About 12 hours run time so far. Best I've ever heard, which doesn't say much because I'm not up with what's possible but have heard a few.

Compared to mimby multibit 1, better detail and separation whilst still sounding big.
Diction is absolutely resolved can hear every word and even some of the quiet background whisperings that occur on some tracks. Voices are very real and when there are multiple voices they are separate.
I can hear, the lead in barber shop voices on Sheryl Crows There goes the neighborhood, further into the track than ever.

It doesn't have the 20 second light show on power on that the mimby had, which is better it just gets on with it.
It runs slightly warm but not hot like the mimby did. Mimby melted it's feet glue and slid off its shelf once on a hot day.

Overall imho a very enjoyable dac.

I've also got a RPi paired with a Modi. In between the two is a DSPi. I'm new to the Raspberry Pi world. At this point I'm just streaming from a browser (Tidal or a radio station I enjoy, KMHD). RPi 5 & a Modi 3. Sounds great and I'm having fun sudo-ing away!

Interesting that DSP board didn't know you could do that. My pi is running picoreplayer which is a free streamer for all my ripped CDs.
 
Based on the positive feedback I received here and the positive reviews that I found online, I've taken the plunge and ordered the Freya + in black with the "standard" 6N8S tubes. It will be a few weeks before it makes it to my door.

Check those tubes thoroughly before you put them in: my dead on arrival Freya+ came with a quad of defective NEVZ 6N8S tubes, two of which had no getter flash and one of those had the plastic base reattached and likely with misaligned pins which is probably why the thing blew up (that and the cracked circuit board from shipping damage)

The replacement Freya+ they sent right away came with a quad of Foton 6N8S tubes with the "OTH" stamp on them which shows they were hand checked and approved for use in the Russian space program. The Foton tubes have a much better build quality than the NEVZ ones.

Just got the second shipment of my Psvane Summit 6SN7 tubes for the Freya+ in the main stereo, they are marvelous sounding tubes with my KEF R7 Meta speakers. They are a bit too "exact" or "precise" for my office stereo where I have a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 500s. These speakers are on the bright side, so for those I'm using a quad of Psvane CV181-MKII which take away the brightness perfectly (these tubes were too far on the warm side when used with the with the KEFs). In my bedroom I'm using my old set (near continuous use for 18+ months) of Psvane Horizon CV181-AT with my Infinity RS4b speakers. I've had excellent luck with these new production tubes so far, and they all come with a warranty (2 years on the Summits, one year on the others), and the sound quality is better than any of my NOS tubes, especially the 3D holography aspect.

Swapping out the 100w plate amp driving the DQ-1W with a tiny Fosi 100w chip sub amp made the system dead quiet except for the Skoll’s humming. Well duh, the little thing has an external PS so doesn’t share the robust shielding of its big brothers. I had it between the big ass turntable motor and the Aeger 2. So I rearranged the Schiit Spread and all is dead quiet with Freya and Skool at full gain. Even on the Lyr headphone amp 70’ duplex Mogami shielded mic cable feet w/ an Art Cleanbox Pro away. Mission accomplished. There’s not a sweeter win than a quick win over noise gremlins without spending more than a couple hours.

Zoom in, that little black box is a $59 100w sub amp that sounds better and doesn’t mess up the preamp’s output than a much more expensive plate amp. Go figure.

Don’t forget Schiit for brains and Schiit on a shingle, and the one my dad used to say back in the 60’s when I was a kid, and actually still says is “Schiit and 3 is 11”. Never understood that one, but it does sound cool, so I use it as well.

I mean, I know their gear is highly regarded and that’s perfectly fine and commendable, but really?

My dos centavos unpopular opinion.

What is German, is my last name…..remove one “I” and replace with an “m” and there it is…..as German as it gets. Herr Schmit. ;)
 
Jason explains the origin of the naming of Schiit Audio. Nothing nefarious, just a name suggested by his wife, to acknowledge the hard work and effort required to create the company. :D

Personally, I have at least 9 pieces of their gear. All reliable and great sounding. I have no qualms with buying more, if new releases interest me...! ;)
 
The name to me is simply an innocent bit of humor. I don't tend to see such silly names attached to such highly engineered, well thought out, well made products and I like the way that they were bold enough to go that way with it. I've heard that the choice of name had something to do with the marketing, because they knew that big box retailers like Best Buy probably wouldn't stock something with such a name, so that they were challenging themselves to be successful without the need to go mass market with it. The fact that they are such a successful company, but did so on their own very stubborn terms is really admirable, I think...
