But the chip cannot change the balance unless the device allows it to and has this possibility built in. Sure, the chip will tell Freya to lower the left or right channel by x dB, but it can't do this unless the Freya is already built in such a way that its channels have independent volume controls and can be controlled separately. In which case, why not add the knob, too?
I think balance control should be a basic feature of any preamp, not a separate option. Not everyone has a perfect room and a perfect place in it for the speakers. Other equalizing settings may be optional and may indeed be sold separately, but L/R balance should be part of the basic function of any preamp worth its salt.
