Schottky Diode ?

I'm looking for a replacement for the NLA 1N60 diode. Is a Schottky BAT 41 the same as a Schottky Barrier diode. I'm confused by the datasheet as usual :D

BAT41's are often used to replace NLA Ge diodes (in biassing circuits for example) because their forward voltage drop is very similar.

However as avionic says - this may not be suitable for other reasons in an RF detector circuit.

They might work.I have never tried it.PM Glen (EW) maybe he has tried them.

Thanks Guys. As Bob says, I did find some (supposedly) at Consolidated Electronics, but the have a $25 minimum order I believe. It is for a Bias circuit in an old Marantz 1060 integrated amp. I have read an Echowars post that stated the BAT 41 would work and it is available at Mouser for not much money. But the shipping would be much more than the diodes. So, hold your breath, I was going to try an NTE from the local Fry's :yikes: I might just hold off until I need more parts for another project to justify the shipping. Thanks as always you Guys are great to us newbies.

Central Semiconductor has a Schottky that is specifically designed to replace old germanium devices like the 1N60. That device is the CDSH270, available at Mouser.

G'day all, my local electronics hobbyist shops no longer sell 'genuine' germanium diodes any longer, however they are selling germanium diode 'equivalents' in the form of BAT46 'schottky' diodes, which work fine in typical germanium diode applications.

In fact, I find them better than most germanium diodes. Regards, Felix (vk4fuq) aka catman.

At low currents (1mA), the BAT46 has almost too low of a Vf (about 200mV). The 1N60 was about 320mV. The CDSH270 data sheet does not show a typical value for 1mA, but does give a max of 450mV at that current, so I suspect that it might be a better match.

But, I'm glad you made me look up the sheet for the BAT46, as I have been looking for a diode with a super-low Vf. That one ought to do it.

Thanks again for the information and especially the actual part numbers:thmbsp: Those 1N60 diodes were used a lot I am finding out. This is some super info.

In the Marantz 1060, the 1N60 (H715~H718) is not part of the bias circuit. It is part of the current limiter circuit. In my opinion, you don't really need a low Vf diode for this application. 1N4148 will work very well.

Take note that H717 and H718 are badly represented on the schematic, they should be oriented the other way.

Man, Thanks a lot. I learned something new again. Someday, may be, I will be much better at reading and understanding the schematics. I just happen to have a bunch of 1N4148 diodes on hand from a previous project. Thanks again.:thmbsp: I always do a one-for-one swap of components. I put them back the same way the old component is installed, regardless of the schematic. I know there can be errors even from the factory, but as you can tell, I'm not ready to decipher the circuits on the schematics just, yet. :D Much safer for me to do the one-for-one.

H715~H718 are not really part of the bias circuit?
i think as per schematics those are in the bias circuit, maybe i am wrong, somedody can confirm please?

best regards

Yeah, in post #14, whatever ecluser says about circuit analysis you can take it to the bank. He does know his stuff.

thank you, in the long run this substitution (1n4148) still working fine in your repair? even at high levels?

best regards
