Scott 222D Bad Output Transformers

IMO, the OPTs are the heart and soul of an amplifier. So, I would not touch such a deal, unless this one was pristine cosmetically and I already had a beat up unit with good transformers.

One of these is where I'd put my money........

That 299C might be a bit of work, but still a nice amp. Probably get it up and running for another C-note. The LK-72 is also a great amp!! Both have more horse power than the 222 line-up......and from my perspective, sound equally as good. I know some folks swear by the EL-84......and I too am a big fan of the tube. BUT, these Scott amps made a believer out of me in the 7591 tube.......and now I think if I could only have 1 amp........ it just might be a brown-face LK-72.

Those two 299 OTs out in California for $180 for the pair......that's probably about as good a deal as you'll find on anything 'original' for a Scott 7189/EL84 based amp IMHO.

Good luck,

WC

FWIW, I could not agree more with what Tom has said. We hate to see a Scott amplifier being parted out. But I have had to do at least two of them because they were either physically damaged beyond repair or just missing too much "stuff".

It's good that it's gone. The buyer will be in hell after that purchase, though. Be happy it wasn't you.

Making one good out of two bad is a tried and true practice of the eternal cheapskate.

That would be me. I realize that my finished product is often costing me more than if I just broke free with the bucks and got a nicer object in the beginning. But working on Scott stuff is part of the hobby. To me, it is part of the cost of enjoying the hobby. I can end up with a very nice finished product and some other very functional products. Just not museum quality. And not everyone is into the "cosmetics".

True KV, my fishers and Eico aren't museum quality they look good with spot's here and there, to me
as long as the front panel looks nice and the tubes glow, that's what I like.

Sometimes I wish that our forums had the thumbs up or "Like" button as in Facebook. That would be appropriate at times here.

But, I digress...
