Scott LK-150 restoration thread
Man I'm really loving the lk-150. I swapped it out with my citation ii and left everything else in the system the same and I think the lk-150 sounds alot better in my system. Could be the wingedc tubes vs the gold lion reissues in my citation but I feel like the lk-150 sounds alot sweeter. Noise floor is lower too with it being dead silent even with my ear up against the speaker! There is a bit of tube rush when using the phono input but only if it's turned up to like 8 or 9. The citation does take the edge in the bass department, but just slightly. The citation also sounds less colored and a little more detail in the high end but I prefer the slightly rolled off smoother sound of the Scott.
In the end I'm glad I took my time with this restoration and was able to make this thing sounds it's absolute best! I feel like this is definitely my end game system and can't wait to get my Altec 19s home from my shop. I'm waiting to have some new record shelves made to make room for the beasts first but it'll be soon! The w90ds are no slouchers though, and definitely hold their own in this set up.i do want to experiment a bit more by maybe swapping in the gold lions and possibly hooking the citation back up with the winged c's to see how much of a difference that makes in the sound. If I do I'll make sure to report back with my findings!

Pulled the ring out of the other knob for symmetry but I would really like to have another ring made. This one is very light weight and I'm thinking it's probably aluminum. Do anyone on here know some one who could make one or a pair? I could send this one to have it copied.

It is stamped, anodized aluminum as you suspect. I know of no one reproducing them. My guess is possibly getting a knob that is the same diameter and pop it out. That ring is often dented, scratched or missing. I guess your amplifier is "Normal". Possible source would be one of the HH Scott kits. I think that type of knob was only used on "ScottKits".
Yeah that's what I thought. Well unfortunately it looks like this particular model is the only Scott hat used this knob. I'll keep digging but in the end the metal ring doesn't make much of a difference aside from having a "complete" unit l. Since I don't plan on ever selling this thing I have all the time in the world to track down another!

FYI, I measured the Outside Diameter of the aluminum ring on my LK-48 amplifier, outer ring tone control. It measures 1-1/64 inch. I realise this is not the same knob. I only offer the diameter for you to check. Possibly, the diameter of the LK-150 ring is the same. That said, you have another possible source for the ring.

The selenium diode marking thing is weird but common for the era. I think the idea is that if you take your output from the cathode end marked with a + you get positive voltage or negative if connected to the - marked anode.
If that's not it I truly have no idea but a lot of them had that marking scheme.

Final update, a kind AKer swapped me a knob with the same metal trim for another Scott knob I had laying around. It sounds great, smoother than the citation ii but you trade off a little bit of the high end detail. I think I prefer this sound though. I see you have the Hayseed Hamfest cans with the green stickers. I used them, too, but did not like the green stickers. I wrote to them and asked if they could send four can covers without the stickers, which they graciously did. Looks much better, but be sure to somehow identify the values before swapping the covers out.
Then again, judging from your wall decorations, the can covers might not be an issue....

I'll bet it sounds even better now that rings on the knobs for both channels match !
Visually I'd prefer if the cans and sleeves were stamped like original but I understand why they can't do that for low volume custom stuff like they do. Given that I'm OK with the stickers, just because I know I'd forget what was inside the can without them. I have to make concessions to my poor organization so I'm not sabotaging future me.
