Shaving Cream Preference

For three years now I have been mixing and using my own shaving oil. Commercial Soaps, Creams, Gel, Foams etc are too expensive. My homemade oil is cheap and does a better job and is better for the skin. I use the old safety razor.

Has anyone tried washing their hair with conditioner? I only wash my hair with shampoo about once every two weeks. The remaining times I use conditioner. My wife put me on to it. It's called the "curlyhead method". Another plus is it uses cheap conditioners. The method maintains curls by cutting out products with silicones, parabens, and sulfates including shampoos, anything that would coat the hair. I use Suave's general conditioners. Your hair has to be warm and you need to use enough you're able to massage it into your scalp. It rinses clean and manageable without being or looking over-conditioned.

My Dad always used Barbasol. Started out with that and then at some point went to Gillette shaving gel or equivalent for some years.

Got tired of spending money on deposable shaving cartridges and started using old fashioned safety razor like my Dad had.

So I just went back to old fashioned Barbasol at that time as well .. been that way since.

The SWEET ORANGE shaving soap is unisex and sold in both the ladies and men's section on Humprey's website. I am always on the hunt for a nice orange scented shaving soap because I love the delicate orange scent of Lucky Tiger aftershave. This soap matches that scent well.

These make great lather with brush application. Smooth shave. Great scent. The JUST LILAC is a perfect match for Clubman's Lilac Vegetal aftershave by Pinaud;

PS, if you want to try Lilac Veg aftershave, I highly recommend "Barber-Tricking" the product before application or it may be way too strong and off-putting to your nose. Take 1/2 the bottle in an empty bottle or container, add the same amount of unscented Witch Hazel, and two tablespoons of Wintergreen Alcohol. This mellows the nose of the cologne WAY down and tames the scent to a nice hint of lilac while still giving you soothing aftershave qualities. Because of adding the Witch Hazel, I actually think it improves the aftershave soothing on the skin.

The SWEET ORANGE is a nice complement to Lucky Tiger's Aftershave that has a sweet orange scent;

Neither foam nor gel, I have about ten or so shave soaps a buddy shared with me. The same guy gifted me a Merkur razor and turned me onto Badger & Blade. B&B is like AK but about shaving instead of audio I tried using shaving gel with the DE razor once and promptly threw it and several other gels I had straight in the rubbish.

Bought a quality electric razor. Over the long run it doesn't get much cheaper than an electric razor

I use a Norelco triple head because it does the same job as a blade and lasts for almost a decade, then I don’t have to continually waste money on this, that and every other new fan-dangled thing that’s supposed to be the best. Then think of all the crap that ends up being thrown away in comparison. Then when it comes to traveling, the Norelco goes into a small travel bag with a bottle of after shave. If you slide the Norelco blades across a sharpening stone a shave will be as close as it gets.

Edge gel (for sensitive skin) user here, along with Walmart Equate 5 blade disposable razors. For a long time I was a Gillette razor/blade user but they have gotten way too expensive.

Edge shaving gel, for sensitive skin with aloe. My dad showed me this when I started shaving. Whenever I try to cheap out and use something else (Barbasol, plain old soap, etc.) I cut myself badly. My wife won't use anything else now that she's tried it, for the same reason. The $h-- works!

I couldn't answer your poll. I'm just about done with a puck of Haslinger Schafmilch (the old Tallow version that I've had in my stash of shaving soaps for a few years). Great soap for the winter. Razors the past couple weeks have been a Schick injector and Gillette Red Tip Superspeed. I have way too many razors...and shaving soaps. Nice to see so much love for the Merkur Futur here. It's one of my faves.

Ouch! Maybe you should try something else, formulated for the purpose. I've shaved with hand soap in a pinch and it is awful compared to proper shaving goo.

I like Proraso. It gives a smooth shave and smells nice. One tube lasts me about 6 months.
