ya true reviews unlike some of the crap that is posted nowadays in some of the magazines.i imagine it'll sound nice but im still waiting for it to come in the mail so i cant post any comments on that yet.

Radioactive. Thanks for the review! What magazine did this come out of anyway? I know that Audio was around back then, but I'm not sure about the other two big ones.
BTW: Do you have that next issue too? I picked up a Sherwood S-3000 MK IV, and a Pilot 248 from a garage sale about a year ago. I haven't had the time to do anything with either of them yet, but I'd absolutely love to read a review on this pilot amp too, if you should happen to have it! :thmbsp: <hint, hint..>
Even better would be to find a schematic for the Pilot, but these seem to be made out of unobtainium. :sigh:

the review came out of the june 1963 issue of high fidelity.the other mag from the time was hifi review.

i do have the pilot 248 review and will post it tommorow.i dont think i have one for the 3000IV though but ill take a look anyways.

Any or all of those would certainly be interesting reviews to see too! :yes: But I only mentioned the 248 because I saw the mention, and because I can hardly find any information at all on this piece! The rest seem much more common by comparison.

forgot to ask which pilot do you have the 248 or 248b i have both reviews so when you let me know ill post it.

i have to backtrack a bit here and say i do have the review for the s3000IV with the multiplex adaptor that'll post while im waitng for you to get back to me on the model of pilot you have.
i just have to many magazines and cant remember all the reviews i have .im going to eventually write them down and that way ill have a quick reference.

I actually have no idea if it is the "b" or not. This unit is currently NF, and has at least couple of fried resistors. I have not had the time to try to recessitate it yet, and it is stacked where it is hard to get to.
As I think more about it, I think that it might be the "b" simply because I could not locate any information about it. And yes, my S-3000 IV has the multiplex adapter.

You should try to get the manual for the s2100. I got the original manual, not a photo-copy, online. Sherwood tuner manuals have detailed alignment procedures, and, unlike most modern manuals, they are not about trying to sell you a product, which you've just purchased.

I have a Sherwood 2100 II which is somewhat better than the already good tuner section in my H. H. Scott 340B receiver, and the Scoitt is pretty good. There appear to be some differences from the description in the original post such as the use of a 6GH8 as oscillator-mixer in the FM section and no AFC. The stereo decoding is better than the Scott as it is a time division decoder rather than a matrix decoder, so the bandpass element is not needed.
The AM section has excellent sensitivity and selectivity.
