Shipping damaged G-22000 on E-bay

UPS Franchise owner Lady I spoke to last week told me most of the problems with damaged packaging happens on their automated sorting conveyors. A heavy box will fall ontop of another and WHAM ......instant damage. It's random and they do have safeguards however accidents do happen all the time. Even if things are package well.

If it were mine, I'd repair it electronically, then use it in a dark room after a few beers just like it were an ugly woman. They all sound the same in the dark:D

**sigh** Doesn't anyone get it when it comes to packing well??

My sentiments exactly.

Sellers just don't understand not only does the item need to survive a 3' fall, it needs to be able to prevent damage from being STRUCK by another heavy object.

Bubble wrap - BAD

Loosely wrapped - BAD BAD

Peanuts - BAD BAD BAD

Non-scratching wrap and semi-rigid foam in the first box, softer foam in the second. Personally, I've been rather fond of re-using enterprise class SERVER boxing materials. Closed cell packing as my first and second layer of protection has been awesome.

This was the bottom shot before installing the "cover" of this triple wall container-like shipping box. I guess I'm lucky I have access to suitable packing materials, and don't ship alot.

Yeah, fortunately my Marantz 2385 just arrived a few days ago from cross country (Florida to California) in one piece without any damage in shipping using FedEX. 2 inch syrofoam used for top and bottom and BUBBLE WRAP was used for the sides. Some already popped. :yikes:

Another victim of poor packing.

What a shame.
Has the damaged amp section too. Ouch.

Rob

I don't see the amplifier section in the pictures. If it is complete this could end up being a good deal. These sansui's really need a nice custom hardwood cabinet anyway.

I have had perfect success with Dell Computer boxes and the packing foam. However, the heavier it is the more difficult it is to pack and protect. Seems like most sellers overlook this fact.To ship a heavy power amp or receiver properly there will be some cost involved in packing $20-$25, and most buyers unfortunately don't want to pay for that.
Regards,
Jim

I normaly use 2" stryofoam sheets from lowes or home depot. It's made to put on a house before someone puts up vinyle sideing but it works great for packing. never had an item get damnaged yet using it on all 4 sides of the box.

I was told (believe it or not) by the local UPS manager,
that items that are insured at $1k or more go on a different
line and are loaded at the back of the truck to avoid damage.
Can neither confirm nor deny.
Hibuck....

Peanuts and bubble wrap can be used effectively, but they do not function well for the actual immobilization of heavy objects. When used in combination with rigid foam they can be quite effective.

dew.

He's selling each piece separately, can he call only half a receiver? I wonder where in Florida? I saw a G-22000 on Craigslist recently for $2100.

What a shame indeed! But on the other hand I suspect there is something else going on with this auction. If this seller bought it (damaged in shipping from SOMEWHERE?) it means he knew what he was buying. Doesn't he know that even cosmetically damaged big G will fetch much more if confirmed to be at least in working condition?
Or he (she) plugged it in and something smoked? Just curious...

Yeah, something smells real fishy about these auctions. If you take a look at the Q&A under the preamp, the seller just cut&pasted the auction title in reference to any question asked - like a robot. Kinda sounds weird.

"It BROKE my heart that the VINTAGE SUPER RARE SANSUI G-22000 DC PURE POWER RECEIVER (250588936970) was damaged..."

Yeah, something just isn't right about that..

kinda like when someone is selling a car and says AC works just needs freon. yea right. if that's all it needs fix it and increase the selling price.
i smell fish- bid accordingly

To me, "not plugged in", "not tested", etc., means "broken", or "we plugged it in, and it doesn't work". You'll seldom see a piece of gear advertised that way that actually works.

Well I watched both of these and had contemplated their acquisition for spare parts if I ever needed for both my 33 & 22. I just could not pull the trigger as the Preamp Section sniped in at $408.89 with 12 bidders and 39 bids, and the Amp Section sniped in at $405.00 with 14 bidders and 34 bids.

It looks like the winner of the Pre was looking to get both as his snipe for $400.00 was second best on the Amp, a good sized chunk of change IMO for these cosmetically damaged/unknown operation pairing. Last summer a nice 22 hammered in at less than 1k (Santa Cruz, CA) and a few others sold between $1200 and $1400.

Mike

Hibuck....

While I was in college, I worked as a sorter at a major UPS hub. I never knew the insured value of anything I sorted.
