Have a chance to pick this up, It,s a Luxman RX-102 reciever with a matching equlizer. Came out in 1982. The reciever is 60 wpc. Anybody know anything about these???????? thank,s for any info.:scratch2:

Luxman made & still makes some very good stuff.

There was a "dark" period so to speak during the Alpine years but even then it was at least average stuff.

That receiver is pre Alpine and should sound very nice. The movable face is belt operated, the belts are prone to fail but available on eBay for a few dollars.

I've been tempted by the suckface a few times myself. If I saw one in person I would probably do it.

The knobs don't pop out, the face around them retracts - Servo-Face. Gimmicky, I thought at the time; store I worked in sold them. What I didn't like about them was the wobbly feel of the pots, which had long shafts and several of us felt that would contribute to a failure of the pots because the user had a lot of leverage on them due to the looseness of the design. However, if it sounds good and the pots aren't noisy, then maybe go for it if you like it. Me, not so much, but that's why there's chocolate and vanilla and lots of other flavors.

It is a very good sounding receiver. I had one for a few years. Gave it to my daughter-in-law to give to her cool grand pop who is using it now to power some outdoor speakers in his gazebo. I would buy it if I could get it under $100.

I have this model, what does the "C.A.T off" do and what does "C.A.T" mean?

I think it has to do with FM stereo only, (a little red light tells you when it is activated) but I need an owners manual to tell me what it does.

I,m looking for the users man. also. what i,m trying to figure out is how to hook up the matching GX-101 EQ. ?? This is a parametric eq so they say. I have other eq,s but thier not parametric, so this kind of confuses me a bit. I,m woundering if the eq. can be used with the amp alone, without hooking up a tape, cd, or rtr? Just hook up the eq in a tape monitor loop and select it with the tape monitor switch. No need to hook up a tape to the other loop on the receiver or on the eq.


Parametric just means you can adjust where the center of the frequency up/down is, a bit higher or lower. To learn more maybe the SAE eqs have info about them on the web. They made some nice parametric eqs.

Probably hard to find manuals. Try the Luxman yahoo group, too. Maybe someone has one in pdf.

I have not found a manual for my RX-103.
